I just took a rather minimal test in the libertarian website:
Your Your According to your answers, the political group that agrees with you most is... Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties. Damn... I'm taking it. I realize my biggest problem with pure libertarianism is on the side of welfare, medicare, workers' safety and education.

Your Libertarian Purity ScoreYour score is...93What Your Score Means0 points: You are not a libertarian by any stretch of the imagination. You are probably not even a liberal or a conservative. Just some Nazi nut, I guess. 1-5 points: You have a few libertarian notions, but overall you're a statist. 6-15 points: You are starting to have libertarian leanings. Explore them. 16-30 points: You are a soft-core libertarian. With effort, you may harden and become pure. 31-50 points: Your libertarian credentials are obvious. Doubtlessly you will become more extreme as time goes on. 51-90 points: You are a medium-core libertarian, probably self-consciously so. Your friends probably encourage you to quit talking about your views so much. 91-130 points: You have entered the heady realm of hard-core libertarianism. Now doesn't that make you feel worse that you didn't get a perfect score? 131-159 points: You are nearly a perfect libertarian, with a tiny number of blind spots. Think about them, then take the test over again. On the other hand, if you scored this high, you probably have a good libertarian objection to my suggested libertarian answer. :-) 160 points: Perfect! The world needs more like you. Hmm so I can't convert you fully just by showing you how a free market better provides for the poor and the working class than impersonal government bureaucracy prone to creating negative economies from unintended consequences. Consider yourself converted. |

You probably found it silly because you're a statist tool.

Well, yeah. If only I could think for myself!
Actually, I think my score is way too high. 28 is an insult. Any test that calls me a soft-core libertarian is obviously made by hamsters.

I scored perfect. That makes perfect sense.
Go spread your big government propaganda elsewhere. |

27 for me, although I would be willing to bend on some of them. I found the last section a bit terrifying, though.

I got the link with the CCW holder at Tucson. I don't want to diminish his heroism, but if he had acted a little differently it would have been horrible. So while I'm not saying we need more gun control, it is odd to me that so many people prescribing more guns for safety in events like this don't realize the chaos of the situation. Besides almost accidentally killing a hero, what if he had entered drawn and the other guy mistook him for a second shooter?

Those are very nice what ifs. There's also the what if of him successfully diffusing the situation because he's armed. Since the what ifs are canceling out let's go with the side that doesn't involve government deciding what citizens should be able to carry around.

Well, question 61 seems to me to be the writing of a mad man... or perhaps a homeland security agent monitoring the site.
I also find it silly to think that a war can be fought without there being civilian casualties. I do owe my existence to the dropping of the atomic bomb, after all.
Also, the state doesn't need to be completely abolished. I'm a minarchist-libertarian not a anarcho-capitalist. Edited by manofmystery - January 13 2011 at 00:57 |
