I like King Crimson among others because they had never fallen into Pop Music. |
Yes I'm a Genman, and I don't care for post Hackett era, but the 7 studio albums they released while Prog, are the best albums ever released IMO.
On the other hand I recognize King Crimson never went Pop, but I don't care for any post ITCOTCK except part of Red.
I don't care if it's Prog or Pop, I listen what I like.

Ok...carry on about the same point over and over again. I can't stop you. You can be the new Walter. |
I don´t know any Walter and I don´t care about him. |

Oh … here’s the one I feared. Can’t vote. Right now it seems like KC are cruising in to an easy victory, but somehow I doubt that this is the end of it. No matter who wins this fight, I will vote for them in the final.

I've voted for Genesis, I just like them more than i like King Crimson (I need a special mood to enjoy them ). To me, Genesis were almost flawless between '70 and '78.

Hmm Genmans ? Not sure what that is but if it means I like Genesis then I guess I am a Genman. I listen to almost all Genesis, the only album I don't have is Calling All Stations....I like to say they progressed into the FM radio side of rock rather than pop. Genesis doesn't come close to pop radio music...but who cares, IMO at least they tried some different stuff and it helped make them a world wide recognized group. They have made a tremendous amount of great music.....for me I lost interest in King Crimson after ITCOTKC and some of Red......but still great stuff

As this site is called progarchives it's naturally that KC is leading. If it was called wonderful music archives I'm sure Genesis would win . But here "progressiveness" is more important than music's soul. Unfortunately.

Genesis made one 5 star album and that is the Lamb, the rest of thire classic albums are 4 star in my book, KC made atleast two 5 star albums the debut and Red, in my opinion the rest of thire classic albums are 4 star, the last great Genesis album was Trick of the tail, wind and whutering and all other ablums that followed are horrible i think, KC have continued to make great albums to this day, they win easy in my opinion, and the have allso never stoped to progress and try new things, genesis stoped when Gabriel left.

There are one album bands here, one band with two fantastic studio releases, one of which is top 13.
Don't you believe that: - Trespass
- Nursery Cryme
- Foxtrot
- Selling England by the pound
- The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
- A Trick of the Tail
- Wind & Wuthering
Are enough to deserve to be called an amazing Prog band, specially when 2 of them are among the top 5 and the rest (Except W&W) are in the Top 100% of Prog Archives while only 3 KC are in the same list and far away?

I pointed out something similar with regard to top 5 and Iván makes another point that a few of us feel......In that KC may be on too high a pedestal based on their body of work, especially when compared to the list he shows above......6 of the 7 Genesis albums are in the Top 100.....pretty awesome, regardless if you like them or not.....Nice nugget Iván.

In this case, it's OK. But people who likes Genesis more but from some reason feels that King Crimson is more important and more innovative, more Prog so they vote for them instead of band they like, it's just weird for me.
I've read what Undercover Boy have in his first post (it's always the same), there's nothing about it.

Couldn't agree more. It's all very obtuse.

KC have fewer great albums over a longer period of time but imo, Red, LTIA and Discipline seal the issue over Genesis. Note that I have not even mentioned Court..., which, while a great album, is not as great as these three for me. Now, MAYBE that's putting them on too high a pedestal for YOU but not for ME. If it was about quantity (of great albums) over quality, I would have had to cast my vote for Genesis but it's not.
I agree, however, that voting for influence or because KC apparently didn't make any pop albums is a strange reason because Discipline is sorta pop with lot of polyrhythms and all that and not quite a prog album in the 'classic' sense. I haven't properly investigated Beat and Three of a Perfect Pair but it would probably not be very different.

I grew up listening to Peter Gabriel's voice. Thanks to my father. I discovered KC later on my own. Fripp is amazing, but I have to go with Genesis. My heart tells me so.

Well, I just enjoy King Crimson more. Even with all notions of innovation and influence aside, I like them better period.

OK, I just made up my mind, I'll go with Genesis. Let's see if I don't change my mind once it's too late.
