No great surprise and obviously a bit sad for long time ELP fans like myself. I was glad to be at High Voltage to see their last performance and there will be a DVD release at some point. Here is the link:

I think that was pretty obvious that the High Voltage gig was their last ever gig. But nice to get it confirmed.

And I didn't go! I was always sort of hoping for that final ELP album that was a a better epitaph than Hot Seat.  Oh well.

Yes I too will be a bit sad at their collaboration ending but they've been putting off the inevitable for years now. Carl stuck me as being refreshingly honest about the whole reunion fetish pursued by promoters and reading between the lines, seemed genuinely dismayed about the waning powers and lack of creativity displayed by both Keith and Greg?

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Just a general observation here. When posting in the news section, please state in the initial post what the news actually is. A link to verify the news is great of course.

I thought that as well. If you happen to get hold of his latest CD 'Working Live Volume 3' recorded earlier in the year it includes a version of Pictures At An Exhibition with Carl playing exactly like he did on the original ELP release in 1971 (allbeit a little slower). At High Voltage he cut out a lot of the fills simply I expect because the other 2 would have struggled to match him. Sad really but there it is.

I didn't go to High Voltage, and I know it is always dangerous to take a set off the telly, but, from what i saw, I think this is absolutely the right decision.

Well, sad but there are still lots of bands as good as ELP that need and deserve to be listen too and don't have a quarter of their fame or wealth.

As a long time fan I think it's the right decision. ELP's peak was in the 70s and more than many of the other frontline prog bands they relied on youthful dynamism and energy to do justice to material like Pictures, KE9 and The Barbarian. I'm pleased they managed to raise their game for one last, respectable hurrah at High Voltage and that I was there to see it.

For a while back in the 70s ELP were the best, an amazing mix of prog and hard rock,  and the thunderous power of their performances easily matched the likes of Led Zeppelin. Thanks lads!Thumbs Up
