No great surprise and obviously a bit sad for long time ELP fans like myself. I was glad to be at High Voltage to see their last performance and there will be a DVD release at some point. Here is the link:

I think that was pretty obvious that the High Voltage gig was their last ever gig. But nice to get it confirmed.

And I didn't go! I was always sort of hoping for that final ELP album that was a a better epitaph than Hot Seat. Oh well.

Yes I too will be a bit sad at their collaboration ending but they've been putting off the inevitable for years now. Carl stuck me as being refreshingly honest about the whole reunion fetish pursued by promoters and reading between the lines, seemed genuinely dismayed about the waning powers and lack of creativity displayed by both Keith and Greg?

ELP has been dying a slow death for many many years. Here's to the great music they gave us in the '70's.

Just a general observation here. When posting in the news section, please state in the initial post what the news actually is. A link to verify the news is great of course.
Ideally, the news links on the home page appear as a list of headlines summarising the news, and the first post gives the details. Thanks.

sorry I did this in rush just as I was about to leave the house for the weekend. Thanks for changing the thread heading as it did perhaps look a bit more terminal than I had intended.

I thought that as well. If you happen to get hold of his latest CD 'Working Live Volume 3' recorded earlier in the year it includes a version of Pictures At An Exhibition with Carl playing exactly like he did on the original ELP release in 1971 (allbeit a little slower). At High Voltage he cut out a lot of the fills simply I expect because the other 2 would have struggled to match him. Sad really but there it is.

I didn't go to High Voltage, and I know it is always dangerous to take a set off the telly, but, from what i saw, I think this is absolutely the right decision.

Please leave RIP for worse things. I thought somebody died, but it's only one more last gig.

It's a damn shame. I'm glad I got to see them. I was a very late, and for a while reluctant addition to their fan base.
Glad I eventually 'got it'
Thanks for the music chaps!

Well, sad but there are still lots of bands as good as ELP that need and deserve to be listen too and don't have a quarter of their fame or wealth.

As a long time fan I think it's the right decision. ELP's peak was in the 70s and more than many of the other frontline prog bands they relied on youthful dynamism and energy to do justice to material like Pictures, KE9 and The Barbarian. I'm pleased they managed to raise their game for one last, respectable hurrah at High Voltage and that I was there to see it.
For a while back in the 70s ELP were the best, an amazing mix of prog and hard rock, and the thunderous power of their performances easily matched the likes of Led Zeppelin. Thanks lads!

Amen. Though don't hurry, guys, with epitaphs. Many bands and artists do farewell gigs or tours. Some already did it several times.

Originalyl I had called it just' ELP- RIP'. Easy Livin then changed it to give a bit more detail that was needed. I think the RIP should be removed altogether but I don't think I can now edit it.
.....Sorry it turns out I can edit it. Hope that's okay now.

(Perish the thought) but in the event of the untimely demise of Carl, they could continue as ELP with say...Neil Peart?

Eric Peachey would be another option (though I have no idea if he is still alive). Judging by the only album I have heard that he appears on he is as good as they come.

Well there's always Simon Philips, who Emerson has worked with before.
Perhaps they could just add the letter P in front of any suitable candidate - Phil Pollins? Or how about Phil Rudd from AC/DC. Emerson Lake and Pudd - I think that might be a goer!

I know Palmer said E and L's skills are waning, but suggesting a guy who can't physically hold drum sticks anymore and the most straightforward rock drummer in the world might be overreacting

That's frustrating... As for me, I honestly, do not believe that they couldn't make any more of good music. Keith Emerson had a great album in 2008, and Palmer still holds the level. Dunno about lake, but from High Voltage record, he also was in fair shape.
