Too bad that the new album isn't going to be ready soon, but like h said, it's not worth a soon release if the band feel the songs aren't top-notch. I think it's even more important that the band think the songs are amazing than that we, the fans, think so, 'cause if a spiritualistic band such as Marillion doesn't have the right feeling with the songs they've come up with or are performing, than the essence of that band has vanished. I'll be looking foreward to hearing the new album and I really am wondering what it's going to sound like - I hope we'll be able to add a third album to the Brave, Marbles-sequence!

Agreed - as a band who has been releasing material regularly for nearly 30 years, they're still one of the strongest and most effective forces in modern prog, IMO. Man I'm jealous of you guys with your live Marillion experiences, in about a year from now when I finish school, I hope to pop over to the UK/Europe and catching a Marillion live show (if they have any around the time I'm going) would be a real dream come true. Hope you enjoy the H Live show Joren, the DVD is one of my favourite solo live shows. Simply stunning, and I'm sure it'll be even more effective in the flesh. |

But on topic, you really should try and catch them live, it's amazing (I've "only" seen them twice: once when HItR was in the making and once after Less=More had been released) and it'll be money well spent, I can vow for that! I'm defenitely trying to catch h natural, which won't be too hard - I just hope someone will come with me! I'll also try to get some h solo material to listen in to the concert; are h's songs solo any good?

Latest e-bulletin from the boys. I'm presently doing this from my father's pc (family visit), and it has a popup blocker, so I can't complete the survey until I return home next week. I'll give it a go though:
Had a quick monitor level check on Monday just to make sure everything works for our rehearsals that begin next week..Good to see the whole band under one roof.. Hey guys, I am listening to the Jack Yello album Thorns of Anger for the first time today, and while listening to the song Unknown Soldier I kind of had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't listening to Marillion. Has anyone heard this song? Here is a link to Yahoo which links to a streaming play of the song on Rhapsody. Hmm, I can´t listen to the song, but I'll be interested in what the others have to say about it. But tell me, is the rest of the band's work reminiscent of Marillion in any period? or is it just this song? 'cause I don't know them.

Can you listen to them on MySpace? http://www.myspace.com/jackyello They have a radio edit of the Unknown Soldier song. I'm not really sure that I could compare the whole album to Marillion or any specific period. It was really listening to that song that it really reminded me of Fish-era Marillion for some reason. It may just have been the voice. I didn't really notice it otherwise, although at other times it did sound like Fish singing to me.

I can see where you got Fish-era Marillion, because of the voice, but it reminded me more of Fish's solo work, as I really didn't sense much "Marillion" in terms of the music (phrasing, arrangement, tone, composition). Not a bad song, though!
Hmm ... speaking of Fish-era, I might have to toss Live From Loreley in the DVD player after the kids go to bed tonight! |

I´ve listened to Unknown Soldier and You´ve Got and they sound really great! And indeed, the vocals are quite reminiscent of Fish, especially on the former one. Who knows, I might actually buy the CD |

They do indeed sound like Marillion, especially the Fish-y vocals, although not really a band I think I'd ever get into.
I also just found a used CD copy of Marillion.com (one of the albums I'm missing from their discog) for 7$, can't wait to give it a spin later tonight  |

Oh, that sounds great! Don't expect too much (except from Interior Lulu, which is absolutely amazing!) from it, and there'll be some nice sounds on this disc for you, I can tell you that.
I myself like A Legacy, Enlightened and Tumble Down the Years, and I remember revisiting Go! after hearing the Less=More-version and thinking it was quite nice, when at first I couldn't stand it....But I really can't recall it now, except for the Less=More-version, so... Well, anyway, it's a nice album^^

Discovered Marillion for myself, on Whistle Test doing Forgotten Sons and I was hooked. I'd seen them in Sounds many times but had not given them much thought as they weren't really "My Cup Of Tea" - how wrong was I ???
Saw them for the first time on the Fugazi Tour (Fugazi is still my favourite Marillion album) at Plymouth Skating in Feb 1984. Saw them many times before Fish left and I genuinely thought the band would be over with out him but once again - how wrong was I ??? When H came on the scene we had a whole new sound (but he did a bloody good job with the old sounds too). I loved Seasons End and outrageously (according to some posts I've read) loved Holidays In Eden too (though perhaps, if I'm honest it was made a little extra special as I was at the Moles Club for one of the "Preview" shows. I lost my way a little after Brave (my last Marillion concert to date was at Cardiff St Davids Hall (I think 1994)) but still loved the band (have seen Fish many times since). Got it back for Marbles though (Am in the names list on the double). Favourite ever track - probably a toss up between Cinderella Search and Script Favourite Album - (as above) Fugazi (Favourite Album (H era) Seasons End) Best Gig attended - (Fish) Donington 1985 (never seen so many Marillion T-Shirts in one place!) " " " - (H) Bath Moles Club or possibly Wembley Arena (Seasons End) Next gig hopefully Fish at Tavistock in a few weeks. |

Heey, and welcome to the Round Table!
Love your choice of Cinderella Search as a favourite song - one of the better Fish-era songs, IMO.
 Interesting, though, that your favourite h-album is SE - a good album, IMO, but defenitely not better than the cliché´s Brave or Marbles, that´s what I think at least. Can you explain a bit more detailed why Season´s End is your favourite? Hope to see you around more.

I really want to get into the H era having only heard marbles which is actually my favourite marillion album so far having heard most of Fish era albums so where do you go after Marbles not really a request for the best H album i would just like to hear something similar to Marbles but not a clone of it, i prefer hearing bands sounds changing slowly rather than jumping from the debut to the latest album.
Would Anoraknophobia or Marillion.Com be good bets for this? |
