Insurgentes! Can't wait to see it and listen to all the bonus tracks.

I made a huge decision yesterday, to remove pretty much all indie music from my i-pod apart from a select few, and then replace all of it with the likes of Sigur Ros, Oceansize, Pinapple Thief, Anathema, Engineers, etc... I now have a very prog inspired i-pod, full of Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson/Blackfield, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Riverside, Crippled Black Phoenix... Not to mention Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix

If I ever misplace it, I often wonder what the person who finds it would think if they were an indie kid or something!???

Oceansize is always a good thing.

Saw them a few weeks ago in Liverpool for £10! They played a lot of songs from the new album and it was probably the heaviest gig I have ever been to!

What's people's thoughts on Insurgentes? I enjoyed it, wasn't what I expected at all. The bonus tracks are great too.

I think Insurgentes is pretty great, although I have to be in a particular mood to enjoy it. My favourite tracks are Insurgentes and Collecting Space, although it's pretty solid all round. Falls slightly short of 5 stars, although I have higher hopes for SW's next solo outing.

Sorry Progkid, I wasn't reffering to the Album, but the documentary DVD that was shipped over the weekend... I take it you don't have it, or haven't bought it?

Ooooooooooh!
I've got it in the mail, shipped 2 or so days ago, although they usually take a week or so to get over here from England/Burning Shed. Super excited for it to come, should be sometime this week with a bit of luck.

I knew immediately that you were referring to the film.

I loved it when I saw it at the NY premiere - definitely not your usual profile of a rock musician, but then, SW isn't exactly your run of the mill sort of fellow, nor is Lasse Hoile.

As you say, it was far different than I expected, but in no way a disappointment - it was, in fact, far more intimate than this sort of film usually allows, which to me at least is what makes it so special.

I have yet to hear the bonus tracks - I got the notice from Burning Shed that my copies were posted yesterday - it usually takes about a week to the US as well, though I have been pleasantly surprised before, though the IEM box set seemed to take forever.

In the meantime, here are a couple of shots we took with SW at the premiere - he is every bit as nice in person as he comes across in interviews, if a bit more shy.

These photos also put to rest some of the discussions on other threads about Steven Wilson being a tiny fellow - I'm 5' 2", and Marek is 6' 3", so to my way of thinking that puts Steven Wilson (who was wearing sneakers) somewhere around 5' 9" or 5' 10"; not exactly a Viking warrior, but decidedly not short/tiny either.   Ying Yang

^ Great pics Keyspoet! Also, nice FoaBP shirt.

This is a little interview with Steven about the RAH gig: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk/page/News?news_id=103207

...so I guess it's pretty official that the RAH show won't be on DVD. Disapprove

No problem, dude.

Here's a new track from SW that he decided to scratch off his forthcoming second solo album: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/soundcheck/articles/web-extras/2010/sep/21/exlusive-track-steven-wilson/

^ You can also download the track, not just stream it. Wink

Here are a couple more shots from the NYC Insurgentes premiere.  The full shot isn't the best, as he has his eyes closed and the focus isn't perfect, but it shows the shoes he was wearing, so no doubt about his height.

;-)

Also, here is a video clip from the Q & A session - it is already up at YouTube, but still being processed, so the proper title and description are not yet showing.

The bonus tracks which did not make the Insurgentes album (and were released with the Japanese and Special Editions) are now available for free download on SW's Soundcloud: here!

cool. already downloaded - gotta burn a cd-r now.

insurgentes arrived today. i haven't got around watching the actual film yet, just bc and pig live plus the bonus songs and the lasse and sw interview. really cool, just what i expected.

also i'm listening to vapour trail lullaby just as we speak, much better than the blackfield one. not a masterpiece but good.

Im curious as to everyone's age here, to see how varied PT's fanbase is. I'm 26 and discovered PT when I was 24.
i'm 17, heard my first song, which was lazarus, when i was 15 or 16. Which reminds me, i should really go out and buy some of their cd's. Should i look more into their early work or the more recent?

EDIT: I swore that post was on the last page, and not the 2nd LOL ah well
