Ah, well in any case this one isn't and more ghost votes keep showing up. Close race!

Incidentally, though multiple votes are not enabled in that poll, and there's no editing to indicate that it had been, I had a
quick scan through the thread (it's 9 pages) to see if there was
indication of multiple votes and came across this:

Has happened before... for example:
Too many votes
|
Yea, but that one had multiple votes |
EDIT: That's the only reference to multiple votes I found (thanks to the find tool in Firefox), and it indicates
that multiple votes was not enabled; however, of course it is still
possible that someone, or some people, was still voting using multiple IPs, or that
there was a Yes conspiracy, even if rather improbable since it wasn't
part of a greater contest, where people who were Yes heads were being asked to join PA to vote in the poll -- similar things have happened where people at a band forum have asked
members there to join PA in order to rate/ review an album so to prop it
up, but this was just another poll, and if there was a conspiracy, it
was probably fairly negligible. Though it may have been part of a
greater yes conspiracy at the time. My detective instincts make me want
to check the ratings reviews during that period to see if there's a
correspondence to indicate suspicious goings on, but I won't as I'll
leave such investigative work to others who have no lives. The clot thickens. By the way, thanks for collating the results, Jon.

wow.. that's close... was going to vote for Genesis but hit Yes by accident. That would suck if Genesis lost by a vote either way.

I think a specific closing time would be more fair...that way nobody could say the poll has been closed purposefully at a specific time.

Imagine if this poll (contest) had happened and these two never met.
Honestly this is more entertaining than any new music either have put out in a decade or so. Talk about audience participation.
If there's a decider vote required ask Bill Bruford which is the best - he should know.

So let's see, that's at least two people who have joined the forums only to vote in this poll (after which they'll never be seen again, maybe?). Keep it up Josh, you're increasing the site's member count!

Rest easy, I made the exact same mistake in the other direction. I meant to vote yes but voted Genesis, so it evens out.

you are at work and all of a sudden you start yelling yeah!! finally genesis won the poll!!!!!!!!!!!!! your co-workers ask -what poll did genesis won? and you say- for the best prog band in this forum i always visit in my computer instead of working. and one annoying co-worker asks- so it's a POP music forum poll that they won because they are the best POP group? this my friends is the reason why Genesis can't win people it's bad for progarchives and the entire prog genre and it's fans.
soo vote for YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by the way i love PETER era genesis (my second favorite band... right after YES)

Do you carev for what your co-workers who don't know a damn thing about Prog say?
Is it bad for Prog Archives what your co-workers say?
Not for me, and I believe not for the people in Prog Archives, as Progressive Rock fans we are used to ignore what people and even critics say, if not...We would be listening 50 cents or Lady Gaga.

Well, it is now October 1st and Yes is still winning, so I guess that settles it.

I disagree. One of the things I have really liked about how UndercoverBoy set up this whole thing from the beginning was the arrangement of the bands into their PA-designated subgenres. This way groups like Magma, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Henry Cow have actually lasted longer. I really liked the idea of some of the big boys being knocked out early because they had to face off within, say, the Symphonic category.
So, to be perverse about it, I'd rather see Genesis and Yes be knocked out rather than have them both go forward. |
This is right.
If both go forward, the poll 'philosophy' would be out. And the poll should be remade...
