Yes, very much so. Embarrassed Forgive me.
It just sounds like Gazpacho liked Mr. h quite a bit, which is of course a good thing.

it's alright; actually Steve Rothery collaborated on one song on a Gazpacho album - Firebird album.

I think Gazpacho talk around here could be considered on topic. Gazpacho and Marillion are pretty tight and Racket sold Gazpacho discs before the band really broke out.

I do prefer Tick Tock over Night, though.

I took a chance and ordered the original version of Marillion's Brave. I have the remastered, but am so unhappy with it sonically. The bass is just cranked up so loud that I have to tweak the stereo just to make it bearable. Looking forward to hearing how this version sounds.

Also, I recently got the remastered Thieving Magpie and Live At Loreley on CD from Racket. Nice addition to the collection.

I never get tired of "Fantastic Place". Very special when they played it at Montreal last year.

Just to add my little bit to the discussion, Gazpacho most certainly would, IMO, rate as on topic on this thread, given, as Eric says, their close connections to our favourite band. This thread is for all things associated with the band, so would include any band who we have seen supporting them, members have played & guested, solo efforts, & etc.

Take a look at TFK Appreciation Thread for a magnificent example of how the topics can be widened out.

Currently transferring quite a lot of vinyl to digital, and Seasons End is on now.

This is such a magnificent album, and, if you are old fans like me, the moment when we all knew everything would be alright after Mr Dick left.

No, I haven't heard it yet, have you had a chance to listen to (bits of) it, in the mean time? I really like their Night album - who didn't?Embarrassed - but I also haven't had a chance to listen to Tick Tock; is that one any good? From what I've heard the concept of the new album is amazing - and brings Plague of Lighthouse Keepers to mindTongue

I was listening to the first three songs of the Clutchings album today and I think I now know what I like about the early Marillion period above other great Neo-prog stuff, IQ for example. Most "traditional" Neo is a bit stiff and has very tight rythmic patterns, which have great melodies and sound great too, but sometimes tend to come across as ehm, - how shall I put it? - playing guitar with a stone pick or something, if you know what I mean. Whereas with the old Marillion there's a more swinging feel to it - at least for me -, I guess. It's like IQ is English ballroom dancing and Marillion is Latin-American salsa, etc. I think it mainly is due to the drumming and the sort of fading out of one theme in a song with just an empty bass ladder left and then the kick in of all other instruments for the chorus for example. I am very tired right now, so I don't know if you all get what I mean - you probably don't - so I might clearify myself some other time. Anyway, what do you guys think about it? or is it just my mind rambling on due to its tiredness?LOL

Sweet dreams,

Latest e-bulletin from the band:

17 September 2010 - Back from Loreley

Loreley 4 September 2010

Loreley was one of those shows I had been looking forward to, both from the obvious history of the band point of view and also because it is a fantastic setting for any concert.

We had the weather with us, that was for certain and I really enjoyed the soundcheck then looking out over the Rhein afterwards while having a couple of sodas. Unfortunately for me though, when it came to the show itself I fell at the first hurdle as it were. With my in ear monitor system running out of batteries, this meant that I had to take out my in ear headphones and use the sound coming back from the PA to play to. Not usually such a problem when you are in a hall, but when you just have the world itself letting all that sound disappear, not so easy. I then had all kinds of other things going on that are too numerous, and quite frankly seem trivial, to mention at this point in time. But it did go some way to putting me off as much as possible.

As I am however a seasoned pro, I fought back valiantly and even had time to appreciate some of the finer points of sheer magic. Our audience were, as always, fantastic and everyone seemed to be having a great time. So thank you for all the support out there!

Pete.

In other news:

Somewhere Else Featured Album Of The Month

'Somewhere Else' featured album of the month.

For those of you who didn't catch this album the first time around we have chosen 'Somewhere Else' to be our featured Album of the month for September. Released in 2007, this album ships with a free copy of the 'Something Else' DVD which contains 3 live performances from the Marillion Weekend in 2007.

During September the CD will be available for the special promotional price of Ł5.99 or Ł4.99 for the download, so you still have a couple of weeks left to grab yourself a bargain. Go to www.marillion.com/music/albums/swe.htm for sound clips and other related releases from the 'Somewhere Else' project.

A Few Words From Pete On 'Somewhere Else'

This is one of those albums that kind of gets forgotten about. Probably because it is sandwiched between Marbles and Happiness. As both of these are double albums and had pre-order campaigns, I think fans consider them to be greater works.

" This holds true for numbers of songs per album but does not mean that SE should be overshadowed in any way. Only this summer for the festivals, we have been playing 'The Other Half' which is a great song live, along with the title track 'Somewhere Else'.

Just having a listen to a few other tracks, songs that stand out as lovely pieces of music are 'The Wound', 'No Such Thing' and a band favourite
'A Voice From The Past'

The whole album is worthy of another chance. Always play music in the dark. It is a much better experience.
"

Eric, in particular, I think would heartily agree with the Somewhere Else sentiments.

Ladies and Gents, let's get a hypothetical scenario going. Let's have our dear h leave Marillion ( not that I want this to happen by any means ! ) and we now have to find a new vocalist to take his place. Who would you like to nominate for the vacancy ?  ( Please, no screams for "Fish".... the fit needs to be someone new to the band )
I thought about this yesterday while listening to an iPod mix, and when a particular track came up I found myself  thinking I could really hear this fellow doing a nice job on a few Marillion songs.   I won't say who it was just yet ( for fear of flying fruit and vegetables ), but let me know your who you would like to have on-board.
Steve

^ Good Lord, Steve, what a horrifying thought.

It's a really interesting question, and don't think I'm going against the spirit of your post, but I would have to say honestly that, if that occurred, then the band would have to hang up their boots and move onto other projects.

The band, under H, have moved so far away from being just another neo-prog band, that any of the singers from this sub-genre would, IMHO, take the band in the wrong direction, i.e. backwards.

They are a unique band, and, as h himself has said, it might have been better had they changed their name after Mr Dick headed for the bar.

Oh my, here come the rotten tomatos  !    But who do you think could be the job ?  Maybe Ian could do a Phil Collins and come out from behind the kit ? He probably has a killer voice, but  doesn't want to share it !  ( Just kidding )
I'll say who I heard who I thought would probably be an interesting fit is some ways. Paul Carrack. There's something soulful in his voice and phrasing that just might work.

Interesting. I like Carrack's voice, but as a replacement for h? Nope, I stand by my original comments.

I can't imagine Paul Carrack fronting Marillion. They would become an entirely different band, IMO.

I can't think of any front runners. Possibly the vocalist for Gazpacho. I can't quite wrap my head around anybody other than h leading this band now. I think I'd fall away from them completely.

Well, this hopefully really is hypothetically and not based on rumours, Steve!, but if that is the case - and God forbid - then I defenitely don't think Marillion should split up. Marillion has indeed changed a lot over the years and is apt (well, actually bound) to do that again; I really have no idea, who might be the follow-up of our beloved mr. h. It could indeed be the Gazpacho vocalist, though, I think that one is a bit too much in the same area as Marillion - and still, at the same time in a completely different one too, though! Maybe we should try and fascinate about something "progressive" and throw in Yamamoto Kyoko, Koenjihyakkei's Vocalist on Angherr Shisspa, that would be funny and really interesting, I think (hell would freeze over!). I agree with the remark that no "ordinary" Neo-prog singer could (nor should) replace h.

PS - ór, we could let Mike Portnoy give it a try, seeing as he's looking for a job right nowLOL

Joren , it's completely hypothetical. There are no rumours that h is going anywhere. It's just a thought I had while listening to Paul Carrack over the week-end. I've always like his voice, and the song he was singing made me think of Marillion. Just a "what if" question that I though might be fun to mull over.
Mike Portnoy might be a good idea ( ha ha ) - drum battles with Ian...I can just see it now.
Hey perhaps Peter Gabriel might sit in for an album and tour. Wouldn't that be a load of fun ;>
