I'd probably start with Black Metal-lite, like Green Carnation or something.  They're not really Black Metal though, from what I've been told.

I suppose Ulver's debut is a great starting point, because it's pretty atmospheric and diverse as well. I don't I've you already had listened to that one though, Matt.

I should start with more atmospheric stuff like Negura Bunget first, I think. The folk influences also help. LOL
