The last few SR's have been premature, mostly because we all know the admins sweep into the JFF and lock sh*t at random. Someone else was going to do it sooner or later, and I thought I may as well make 23 while few shredders were online.

Yeah, that is a journey only you can make. I'm fine with my cheap Ibanez (decent still for its price) and sh*tty but heavy line 6 amp. If I ever get good I'll want better equipment, but it suits its purpose right now.

I'd recommend a used American Special Telecaster; they retail at about 1400 used here but they have one in used, although near mint condition for 900$ at my local music store. Amazing tone and looks sexy as well.
You can get a lot of other great guitars for that price though, depends on what you want to play.

Mine was $150 + $100 amp (special deal at the time) +bag and strings and other sh*t. I think the ENTIRE purchase was $400. My friends guitar alone was more than that and he said he likes mine better.

I meant what type of music, although there's more diverse instruments than a tele if you're still developing a style.
My top picks 1000$<
http://www.prsguitars.com/secustom/index.html - -PRS Custom SE -As the page mentions, discontinued, so they're really cheap used (about 600 here for a sexy/insanely diverse guitar). There's the 25th Anniversary model now, although they'll be about twice the price and are essentially the same hardware with uglier coats of paint, IMO. Absolutely amazing build, tone and looks for the price.
http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0145102302 - -Fender Standard Telecaster -Really good value for the price and more readily available than the PRS, although a different insrument altogether. You're more likely to get a great deal on a 1 or 2 year older model for one of these as well.
http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?ProductID=42&CollectionID=6 - -Epiphone Les Paul 100 -Cheapest of the 3 but still a great guitar for a great price, and once again, will be a lot easier to find than the PRS Customs. They retail for about 500$ AUD new here, not sure about prices there. You can usually get them for about $450 on eBay.

It's a student edition (made in Korea) but as I mentioned, they look f**king fantastic and sound brilliant for the price. I've played both it and the 3000$ actual version, and although I'm not a massive guitar expert, the difference wasn't as massive as I assumed it would be. They look amazing as well.
Hang out for a good deal and don't buy them at the price a store recommends, though, my friend got his guitar teacher to buy his Custom 22 as 'private stock' for his music teaching business (although not actually for the business) and got them down from 1500$ (already down from 3500$) to $1100 or something ridiculous.
Not sure if they do it in NZ, but here they seem to add 50% to every RRP for guitars because there's basically no market for them here. You can usually get a good deal though.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PRS-SE-Custom-22-/110581452475?pt=AU_Musical_Instruments_Instruments&hash=item19bf2b0ebb - Like this - great price for a model in great condition and with both a soft case and a hard shell case.

Hmm, my interest is peaked. I think I'll have a chat to the guys in my hometown music shop (one is a former British 80's rocker who knows everyone in the region, and the other is Jeff Boyle from Jakob). I'm sure I could find something decent. They have Telecaster Standards in stock new for $800 NZ, and I'm sure that will come down further.

As I mentioned, don't buy it at the price they offer, they almost always overprice guitars. As I've mentioned, the PRS is the most expensive, but quite easily the best of the 3 from my personal experience and you'll also be able to get them down to an even better price than you would be with the others because it's OOP.

800 isn't that much... but I'd still have to buy an decent amp.
Posted By: progkidjoel
Date Posted: September 07 2010 at 06:04
You can get a 5 watt tube amp (perfect for practicing) for like 150-200$, or you can get a decent 10 watt solid state amp for about the same price.
http://www.roland.com/products/en/Micro-CUBE/ - These are about 100-200$ tops, I use one for bedroom practice, although they really are just for bedroom practice and not much else. They still offer a good range and solid EQ for a tiny practice amp though. Or you might want to get a modeling amp (great for beginners, offers a massive range of digital effects for a good price) although most more advanced guitarist will be against that idea.
I'd recommend spending about 300$ on an amp if you can, that way you won't want to replace it after a week. Go for quality, not for size, though.

Hey Henry, are you up late or up early? Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I also find Crash a mediocre film, and I think that its Oscar for best f**king movie was one of the Oscar's lowest moments ever.
Early, I was asleep from 9pm to 2am and I've been w**king instead of watching this terrible movie because I keep pausing it and getting distracted because I hate it so much and I don't want to have to write about it. And I would agree, but Titanic was a worse movie, although so many people saw that I can sort of understand caving on that one. Once I finish and write and send it out (it's a group project argh) I'm going to nap then get up again to do a bunch of other stuff I should have done this weekend.

Well, I did say "one of" the lowest moments. Titanic is a good contender, yeah

So I had it spoiled for me because I heard the guy in the class talking about shooting blanks, so the scene when crazy Persian guy shoots a blank was hilarious. Why was the hispanic guy screaming? Anything that hit her would also hit him and he could obviously feel that he didn't get shot. Obviously you can't expect him to think of them being blanks but the Persian guy could have failed utterly and missed.

I always buy quality... well my Takamine D Series Acoustic was a good beginner's acoustic and my old violin was quality.
Good good, better to get a 300$ amp now than a 100$ one and ending up getting the 300$ one six months later. It depends on what you want to play though, a modelling amp is great for a range of stuff.
My friend uses one of these (the 15 watt model) for practice and it sounds pretty good with a great range of effects, not sure on pricing here or in NZ though.

She does actually although I think it was more her clothing choice, my mum only saw her from the car when I was getting picked up to go to the dentist.

Did all those get published in the magazine? I didn't think you could get away with nipples in the US without the Playboy foil.
Finally done with Crash, I only tried to start watching it 4am...

I saw you said last night that AAL were the only metal band that does instrumental music well, and I instantly thought of RC's "Enter". It's not very metal, though, but neither is AAL.
EDIT: so if you like AAL you'll like "Enter" maybe even more. However, don't try their other two albums before, they're not nearly as good.

I've heard most of Enter on Youtube, and it was alright. I'd like to try and find a copy on CD but it's hard to come by one.
AAL are pretty metal, though. Djenty djent djent.

That's interesting, I would have expected you to love Enter. But it's cool.
RE AAL, I must confess I've only heard the album once, so my impressions might not be that accurate.

I'm hoping for Christmas, although it doesn't seem likely between exams and all unfortunately. It's all written up this stage (at about 2 hours of material written and about 45 minutes of super low quality rushed demo versions recorded) so I basically want to work on some new ideas that I have, finish off the other hour or so of stuff and then pick the best parts to create a 30 minute or so demo.
So currently, and tomorrow, I'm working on -The tracks I want to finish -Re-recording, adding to and editing the tracks which I've already written -Choosing whether or not to add vocals/lyrics (which will probably add a month or two for writing for the time it takes) -Getting a rough idea of which tracks should/will make the final cut.
Really having a fun time making it so far. Hopefully the audio quality on the final product isn't terrible I'll post it up for free download for sure, btw, and I'm making CDr's with booklets for some friends and other people who are interested, not sure how many I'll end up making though. I don't really want this to end up becoming super serious or a chore.
I'll upload one of my tracks somewhere tomorrow if I finish it; the project is still nameless currently, although I'm 90% decided on a name.

I'm struggling with recording the final track of my demo/album/whatever, I gave myself a summer deadline, but as I expected it didn't happen. Got some bass done saturday, though.
What instrumentation will you have?

That sounds interesting. I'm really looking forward to hear if your album will be able to top Conor's Recordungs.
Also, you should definitely add the album art to the download, just like PtS.

It's about 50% guitar, 30% piano and 5% bass with the other instrumentation being most analog synth effects. I'm considering using drums from the Guitar Pro 5 engine, although they have that really computer generated sound to them. I'm considering either actually recording the drums or asking a friend to, but I think it'll probably be drumless if it continues as is.
