Welcome to Round 3 Division 1 of Battle of the Prog Bands! This time, our two contenders are Genesis and Yes. Vote for your favorite, and the band with the most votes will move onto Round 4. Please do not vote unless you have listened to at least one album by both bands. (But I'm sure that won't apply to anyone here.)
Here is the tournament thus far:
Schedule for Upcoming Matches
Round 3 Division 2 - September 19
Round 3 Division 3 - September 22
Round 3 Division 4 - Septemeber 26
Round 3 Division 5 - September 30
While my interest in the band has slightly waned over the months, I'll still give my vote to Genesis without hesitation. They have made some of the most pleasant to listen to music in the entire Rock genre.

I could be wrong here, but from what I recall it seems to usually work out that in a Yes vs Genesis poll, Genesis prevails, while if you compare any specific albums (of comparable ratings) or any specific songs (of comparable importance), Yes prevails.

My two favorite Symph Prog albums, and while I love Genesis a lot, they came later and delved through their discography myself. While Yes, I've been listening to them since I was a kid, my dad used to play them a lot, specially The Yes Album and Fragile. Yes > From Genesis to RevelationTime and a Word < Trespass (the first Genesis album I loved, and the one I still love most)
The Yes Album > Nursery Cryme (but just because of nostalgia reasons)
Fragile < Foxtrot (the nostalgia almost beats Foxtrot, hehe)
Close to the Edge < Selling England by the Pound (never been much of a CttE fan)
Tales from Topographic Oceans = The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (The Lamb was the only Genesis album my dad had, both equally awesome and nostalgic for me)
Relayer > Trick of the Tail
Going for the One < Wind & Wuthering
Tormato < And Then There Were Three
Drama = Duke (both from 1980, both different, both great in their own way)
So yeah, Genesis beats Yes for me in chronoligcal order... that's why it's a toughie.. but still went for Yes.. Edited by The Quiet One - September 14 2010 at 16:33 |

That's usually true. I prefer the classic Genesis albums to the classic Yes albums, and both of their "sell-out" years are equally bad IMO. Still, in a Supper's Ready vs. CTTE poll, Supper's Ready usually wins (I think). |
