Aha, You-well vs. Yé-o-well does make sense, and Ewell a source for You-well stands phonetically indeed. Now only thing left is to search the ancient documents and tracks the movements of your ancestors... If you ever want to do that, it's very difficult (IF you find documents).

I doubt I ever will find the documents.  I can get back as far as the 1640s in Chertsey and the earliest spelling there is Yoel.

The village of Ewell isn't all to far away.  Maybe I'm wrong and it has a completely different origin but the proximity of Chertsey from Ewell seems to fit.

The thing is, there's a family in Kent with a similar name and they originate from an area of Kent with a place called Ewell Minster nearby.

Plus there's the town of Yeovil in Somerset which maybe where we're from as well.  The origin of all those towns/villages are the same.  As is a place called Ewelme in Oxfordshire.  I think it means "A bend on a river", or somesuch.
