I dislike the overuse of lolspeak

"Oh hai"
"I can has..."

I really dislike fml, it's just self-pitying and attention grabbing, and rarely have I ever seen it used in a context where it seems appropriate.

I'm also not a fan of people who feel like most words are incomplete if not prefaced by an f-bomb. It's even worse than the like epidemic slart mentioned before. "I was at the f***ing bus when she f***ing looked at my f***ing face" blah blah blah

The cliched "It's all subjective" is a hell of an irritating phrase.

No, just the phrase Wink
You know I love you Walter!

And uh, I'm sure there are phrases that annoy me, but I can't think of any so maybe I've blocked them out.

Any mention of God as a guiding force in anythingoutside of a church irritates me. How much depends on where/when.

Actually I'll agree with that.

Also most political phrases bug the hell out of me.

fyi - or more accurately - eff-why-eye ... that in a conversation could cure me of pacifism.

whatever ...  use to really wind me up until I realised it was supposed to - lost all it's power after that.

All those business jargon clichés like "helicoptering away", "push the envelope" "high-class problem" and "going forward" have vanished from our company thankfully, giggling and/or snickering whenever anyone used one probably helped. "I know it's a big ask" generally prompted fits of laughter and "have you tried a girdle" retorts. We used the same method for stopping people using buzzwords "paradigm" "proactive" "asap" "offline" "holistic" "transitional" "strategic" "synergy" "downsizing" - malaproping them was always a laugh - paradise for paradigm (or pair a dimes for the plural), prophylactive for proactive, elastic for holistic, putting good people out of work because you couldn't do your effing job properly for downsizing - that kind of thing.

"It's my opinion"

Okay, I'm a hypocrite, I use this one, but I just hate when people use this when you're talking about facts, and NOT opinions.

"Bull in a china shop"

Damn you Mythbusters! Angry

"FML" or "I hate my life" etc.

See, I'm a teenager. And the worst part about being a teenager is that all your friends think their lives suck and are worse than everyone elses. They're never grateful for anything and think that they have it worse off than every other person in the damned world. I swear if one more person I know says they wanna die I'm just gonna say my thoughts on it right at them! Angry

"Say that to my f**king face"
My response is usually "I already did."

"Crunk"

DeadDeadDead

"I'll kick your ass"

What is so threatening about giving someone a kick in the rear end?

And last but not least, everyone who uses internet abbreviations in person. "ell-oh-ell" "bee-are-bee" "bee-tee-doubleyoo." I have a cousin who does this.

"Excuse me" (it's supposed to be polite, but always sounds smug)

"Defending marriage"

"My wife says I can't go"

"It's all about the kids"

"No offense, but..." (what follows is always offensive)

"Your cigarette smoke is bothering me"

"Stop hitting me with that stick'"

It's All Good..............It's not all good and if you think it is, you must be a very ignorant and stupied person.LOL

How can every Yes album be good? Mike Oldfield? ....Whoever it may be......how can every album that a band makes be good? Even an excellent band like POPOL VUH has a couple of stinkers.

How can everything be good?

Do you understand the meaning of the word good?

How educational is it to tell someone....".It's All Good"?  That seems like a cop out.

Or is this annoying phrase used for healing process?  For example......Okay the guy sitting with us has his opinion and you have your facts.....But,..it's okay dude, because it's all good.    Is it? How does confusing opinions with facts fall into the catagory of being good? How can any aspect of that be good when the importance of facts are often confused by people and thought to be more like opinions?  Are you trying to say that we both suck? And that intelligent points which are important to defend are a disease which goes against the grain of modern attitudes in today's society?

Can't anyone have a debate without the "It's all good" crowd going into a frenzy?

"Agree to disagree"     Well dude,....you may agree to disagree but, this is the way I do things in life.

Is it?.....Even if it is morally wrong? Wow,...that doesn't really say much for me or the rest of the world who disagree.

"Chill Out".....Is this what you say to someone who is right? What if the person is not emotionally charged and they are just stating a true fact?  Are you just going to dismiss good advice or the chance of learning something new about life and say to the person....."Chill Out"?

How will you ever learn anything from anyone else on this planet if you say....."It's All Good?   "Agree to disagree"?  and "Chill Out"?

I don't think you can think outside the box until you can master thinking inside the box...

I fail to understand how you've come to the conclusion that okay or OK doesn't mean anything..(?). It has a lot of semantic content if you ask me. And surely it is a word.

I'm normally don't get 'annoyed' by any string of phonemes. Language is intriguing and interesting in all it's occurrences.

Although I do understand the irritation here

Not so much a phrase but my wife and I were at this restaurant and at the table next to us were four either college or high school aged girls and like they overused "like".  We're talking like severely overused.  I was very close to turning around and like telling them to like put a cork in it or something
You have my sympathy. The annoyance in such a case is eqiuvalant to a needle stuck in a groove.

Also, I have to agree with Dean that business jargon actually is annoying, and also the abbreviation FYI. My former boss usually began his e-mails with FYI. I hated that...

Ironically enough, I can't stand the use of "annoy" without qualifying who or what is being annoyed. My mum says it all the time "it's that sort of thing which really annoys". ANNOYS WHO?! If it annoys YOU then fine, say so, but if you leave it hanging it suggests some universal annoyment. Grr.

UK politicians and media are forever banging on about "hard-working families". What about hard-working individuals or childless couples?

Unlike some people on this thread I have no problem with internet slang (epic fail, lol, etc), especially as it's often used with a sense of irony that elevates it above a lot of equally stupid slang of yesteryear. I also don't mind the use of "like". Yeah, it can dominate speech at times, especially the speech of self-conscious teenagers, but it's far from meaningless. It's actually a pretty sophisticated and natural evolution of language. Reading this thread, I think some people here simply fear change. Language evolves. Deal with it. Lol.

There are some diabolical utterances that really 'rip my knitting':

I Know where you're coming from - your tired and jaded rhetoric fails to even summon my anger
You know what I mean ? - clearly I cannot articulate my ideas but I'm hipper than thou
Absolutely - I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about
Respect ! - I am white and ashamed of it
Can I ask you a question ? - that is a f**k*ng question
Do you have a spare cigarette at all ? - Yes, I always save my last one in the event of being propositioned by a beggar
The children are our future - No, uber wealthy/powerfull industrialists are our future
I just want to be allowed to get on with the rest of my life - Celebs in drug/sex/corruption scandals recite this mantra unfailingly (if it came true they would be reduced to the same status as the rest of us i.e nobodies)

Thanks, I feel much better now
