Mental illness is a completely different thing and beside the point. Self-medicating with alcohol or street drugs never ends well anyway.

Yes.  And I don't think I need to take the "it's not as bad as alcohol" route either.  I think I'll take the "people have the right to ingest what they want" stance.  I don't really understand the logic behind making any substances illegal.  People have the right to do what they want, even if it is unhealthy.  Not to mention that people are getting their hands on any drugs they want anyways, except now it's giving business to shady criminals, turning many more people INTO criminals, and not allowing people to know what their actually getting in many cases.

The fact is, people's power to decide is just being delegated to....wait...OTHER PEOPLE?!  Other people who can be just as wrong and right as they can?  Whats next, do I have to ask the government I can eat unhealthy food?  If drugs were legal and we educated people on the negative effects of say heroin, people would actually understand how bad it is (yes I know, their would still be some junkies, it's naive to believe that'd work as a whole).  Rather than just saying "Pot is bad!! Heroin is bad! Don't do drugs!"  Because then people (many younger people) find out that hey, pot isn't a big deal.  Then people do legitimately harmful drugs because after all, it's all probably just propaganda (what dumb kinds think, not I).

Internet porn is becoming quite habit forming, as are TV and video games.  Lets make a call and get them the hell out of here.

But whatever, I smoke pot every day anyway, and have acquired everything i've ever wanted with no issue.  So it wouldn't change very much for me.
A bit like a no control Olympic Games. Takes as many drugs as you want under the influnce of crack, horse, P. Should make for good viewing. TV audiences would sky rocket..

Another solution would be to be totally stoned, pissed, watching porn, the news, playing XBox, F&*king in Heaven all at the same time. Great pastime for extremistsSmile

I would put in one point. While someone said the Bipolar is bringing up another subject, much more common psychiatric conditions like anxiety and depression complicate this issue quite a lot. Most drinkers find that alcohol reduces anxiety (and sometimes depression) while they're intoxicated but makes the overall condition much worse. Similarly, THC has extremely variable effects - some anxious people get calmed and some are more likely to get paranoid (a known THC side effect). Sometimes both can happen depending on set and setting. Ecstasy can have some serious long term effects in terms of depression.

These are powerful chemicals and even the seemingly most benign need to be treated with respect. Whose responsibility it is to regulate them is another matter.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

According to Wikipedia:

So what's the point on knowing if Hendrix died of drug overdose or of vomit or of asphyxiation with his guitar's strings? We are not debating whether drugs are good or bad for you (in most cases they are bad, though I wouldn't say 100%), we're debating whether they, and particularly THC, should be legal. They should. It's a matter of personal choice and liberty. If Hendrix took too much and died, it's a pity. He knew what he was getting into.

Yes...one never develops a tolerance to marijuana as with alcohol or most drugs.  There are no hangovers.  It has proven over the last 5O years not to make people insane or lead to heroin addiction and violent rape and murder.

Another massive benefit would be that HEMP would then be legal.

The issue of Hendrix is void.  He died because a prescribed drug he was taking was a much higher milligram dose in England than in America; the tragedy was that the British druggist didn't catch the difference and warn Jimi to take less than he normally did.  An accident.

I think this issue is a moral one for most people.  It's interesting in Canada how weed seems to become more tolerable as the years go by.At least according to polls that are published in the newspaper. I think at the least it should be de-criminilized.I mean to get jail time or a fine for having personal pot on you is crazy. I was caught once by a cop while smoking weed in my car ,he searched me and my car and found 1 joint that i had forgotten about. He crumpled it up away from the car as i watched and gave me a break. He didn't know i had a quarter ounce in my pants but if he had that would have affected my future i'm sure because i would have gotten a criminal record.
