Anyone here have the Ltd. Ed. of Deadwing? Sounds like an amazing package, having a read on their homepage discog.

Yeah, I've got the Special Edition, it's pretty cool. I ended up getting the DTS DVD-A version as well, as it has the bonus tracks Half Light*, Mother & Child Divided* and Revenant, plus extra stuff.
*I absolutely love these two tracks, too!

Now I know I'm not alone out there. LOL
I advance ordered the special edition.  It didn't arrive until a few days after the non-special version was available at the local chain store, which I went out and bought that day.  Sold that one off and got later the surround sound DVD version.

Random question; does anyone here have Tim Bowness' solo album? The samples sound brilliant, and I can't decide if I should get that or get a no-man EP instead

I don't have it, but isn't Richard Barbieri in his solo album? If so, I'd say get that one! Tongue

Barbieri isn't on his solo album as far as I know - they did an album together called Flame (which also features SW, Gavin and Chris Maitland!) though, which I really want to get as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flame_%28Richard_Barbieri_and_Tim_Bowness_album%29

Both Tim Bowness' album "My Hotel Year" and the most recent No-Man album "Schoolyard Ghosts" are both outstanding albums in their own right.

"My Hotel Year" has a darker, starker sound, with stripped down instrumentation reminiscent of "Pink Moon" by Nick Drake or "Mona Bone Jakon" by Cat Stevens; whereas "Schoolyard Ghosts" is lush and gorgeous, though the feel and lyrics still tend toward the melancholy.

I love "My Hotel Year," but personally I can't get enough of "Schoolyard Ghosts," especially the opening track "All Sweet Things," with backing vocals from Steven Wilson, and my favorite song from the album, "Truenorth," which is truly achingly beautiful.  I consider "Schoolyard Ghosts" to be the finest album by No-Man, which considering their consistently high quality releases, is saying a lot.

The No-Man DVD "Mixtaped" contains a lot of material from "Schoolyard Ghosts, as the concert supported the release of the album, included both aforementioned songs, and is one of the best concert videos I have seen, bested only by Porcupine Tree's "Arriving Somewhere" and "Anesthetize."

No matter which album you choose you won't be disappointed.  Enjoy!  ;-)

SW Insurgentes DVD and screenings

Burning Shed now have the double DVD of Lasse Hoile's film about SW "Insurgentes" up for pre-order. The first 2,000 copies from the store are going to come with a little extra free gift too! The 2 disc set comes in a hardback digibook with 64 page book, and includes a lot of bonus video and audio material.

Also announced is that there will be pre-release screenings of the film, with question and answer sessions with SW and director Lasse Hoile, at Prince Charles Theatre in Leicester Square, London on 2nd September, and at the IFC Centre in New York City on 21st September. There are a small number of tickets available to the public for each of these screenings. NYC tickets are now available from the Burning Shed, with London tickets to be available shortly.

Meanwhile, the fourth of Steven's columns in Electronic Music appears in the September issue, or can be viewed on line here.

Thought I'd give this thread a bump with some great news.
Going to order mine now

And ordered.

I just ordered my copy.

Hope I got one of the first 2000. I want my free gift! Big smile

I've been terrible with ordering stuff lately. I preordered Recordings the moment the link went up, preordered Opeth's Live at the Albert Hall limited edition the moment the link went up, and just ordered Insurgentes the movie today. I also bought the limited edition of the new Iron Maiden yesterday as well. I've been very naughty lately.Embarrassed

Wow, you really splurged Kashmir! LOL.  Hopefully I can order mine by tomorrow and (maybe) get one of the first 2,000.  I hope Smile.

I think the bonus features on this one make up for the complete lack-thereof on Anesthetize.

Yeah I'm just nuts when it comes to music. There may still be some of the first 2000 left tomorrow. Insurgentes is more a niche product than PT, so you may get lucky. Smile

I agree. My only disappointment with Anesthetize is the lack of extras. I have the grey edition, and the standard DVD edition of that (couldn't wait!) . I missed out on the red, so at least I may be getting the Insurgentes bonus! Tongue

I didn't know the Opeth DVD was available for order

I need to make some money for the 2DVD/3CD edition, and fast! Really don't want to miss that one.

^Yeah, the preorder link for Opeth is up. I logged into my Facebook, and there was a message from Opeth's page saying the DVD was available to order. A few days before the Insurgentes  DVD LOL I'm gonna be broke!

Here's a review of the PT/Karnivool gig (would've loved to be there)
http://spinningplatters.com/2010/08/12/show-review-porcupine-tree-with-karnivool-at-the-warfield-8112010/

But look at the setlist:

Can't believe they played the extended version of Even Less, and they also played Pure Narcotic!

Wow, are you serious? The full Even Less! Shocked I have been praying for them to play this live. If only they'd release a recording of it. Anyway, PT and Karnivool? That's a pretty sweet gig right there.Big smile

They probably played the full-version because Recordings is being reissued.  Would've been amazing to see.  I agree with Ben, I think they should play more from the first few albums but they still have great live DVDs nonetheless.
