An amusing domestic update for you. Those who have known me on the Round Table from the off will remember that my lovely wife, whilst having impeccable taste in most departments, has a strange hatred of Mr H, which has often caused some difficulties.

However, last night, she returned home from a friend's house to see me blasting out Marbles Live DVD. Not only did she allow me to finish the thing (a first), she actually ASKED for The Great Escape from the Brave DVD to be put on again - the second time in as many weeks.

I'm winning, chaps. After 11 years, I'm WINNINGRawks

I just recently received my Brave and Clutching at Straws albums! (Thumbs Up) I like them both a lot right now.

I will return here after I've given them some thorough listens and tell you all what I think. Approve

Great! Make sure you listen to Brave in the dark one time, it is absolutely wonderful that way. IMHO, the 3.95 rating it has here on the archives is way too low... But hey, tastes just differ...

Haven't seen any reviews yet, but not a bad list is it?

that was my first marillion experience i have heard obviousy the Script album but never heard the post Fish era i only stayed for The Invisible Man and wow what a performance that was, i don't regret leaving for a good ELP spot though.

I did purchase Marbles on my way home the next day though and listened too it on my laptop on the train, i think i must have been really rocking out to it because i got some strange looks! (of course those looks could have been relating too a 17 yr old wearing an Emerson, Lake and Palmer T-Shirt)

Not sure if anyone is aware, but Marillion's pre-High Voltage gig at Leamington is available for download. I got it the other day and it's VERY good. Touching dedication to Rich Harding of Also Eden before "Happiness Is The Road".

i wasn't around at the beginning of neo-prog and Marillion but was Fish ever criticised for his very Peter Gabriel-esque stage get up or accused of copying him?

I've told this story before but it deserves a retell.  When Script came out it was on display at my local record, as in LP, store right in front with and sign that said, "early Genesis-type sound".  I bought it and was struck by the similarity especially on Chelsea Monday.  So I make a tape and put it on for a friend who was also a hardcore Gabe era fan, telling him I'd discovered unreleased material from between Nursery Crime and Foxtrot.  He bought it hook, line and sinker!  I even remember saying to him, "Check out Hackett on this part".  Now a lot of people will tell you Fish was more copying Peter Hammell but at the time I didn't really know VGG so I didn't have that perspective at the time.

Really? Wow, I'd never heard this story beforeLOL Well, I have to admit that I personally don't see Fish,or early Marillion for that matter, as a Gabriel spin off, they don't even remind me of each otherEmbarrassed But mayby that's because I was first introduced to Marillion and later on I started listening Genesis...

Joren

PS. If Fish at the moment still is labled as Gabriel-esque, I'd be quite cross with the people who do so and I wouldn't understand it either - Fish is a totally different performer from Gabriel as far as I'm concerned...

Joren,  I quite agree that it  would be unfair to  call Fish a clone now,  1983 was different, simpler and hard to explain.  this was only my impression but one that my little group of progheads had.  kenmar

Joren,  It would be unfair to call Fish a clone now in 2010 as opposed to in 1983.  By clone I mean a copy or as you would say Gabriel-esqe.   In my earlier post I was giving you my story from 1983, at that time I did think of him as copying Gabriel and the group as copying Genesis, that was a long time ago and my viewpoint has changed.  hope that clears it up.   kenmar

Ah, ok, no that clears a lot. And I can understand you thought of him as a Gabriel copy-cat as well as the band, I mean, look at Grendel (an amazing song by the way!) It's just that I became familiar with Marillion before with Genesis Gabriel-era - if it'd been the other way round, I'd thought the same, I thinkSmile

Hi all. Back from summer holidays, with a new message from Mr H:

Well! What a fantastic reaction from the Polish fans in Charlotty. I had a wander round the amphitheatre before the show (something I rarely do) and met quite a few fans who were all very enthusiastic but courteous and patient. Thanks for that. I enjoyed our gig very much and hope to do it again in the future. A couple of weeks "holiday" now and then Loreley. Marvellous!

I'm delighted to announce an h Natural return to Dublin on the 6 Nov at Crawdaddy in Dublin (go to www.marillion.com/tour/index for details).
For those of you who haven't experienced me er.. "n@ked", it's just me, my voice and a piano. I play whatever I fancy in the moment, and I'm also there to have a chat with the audience, answer questions, talk about my life, hear about yours ..and I have been known to play the odd request too.

h Natural is very natural, and is a chance to hear my favourite songs pared down to their essence.

Downloads from the 3 h Natural 'Birthday' shows in May 2010 are also now available at www.marillion.com/music/solo/h-selection

Viva Polska!
Mr h
