it's in a similar vein to some Tool videos, but not as dark (visually)

I've got to say, SW has had an influence on my own musical taste. I've followed up on a lot of his musical recommendations, and have rarely been disappointed. SW got me into King Crimson and Marillion, just a few examples. Mikael Akerfeldt is another such source for me. Thanks to him, I recently got into Camel and the Canterbury scene of progressive. And I will eternally be grateful to Mikael for introducing me to PT. I heard him raving about them in an interview, so I checked them out, and haven't looked back! It seems these guys have pretty awesome taste in music!

I have the same experience kashmir. I got into Riverside thanks to Mr Wilson. I was already a big fan of Crimson, long before I heard any PT stuff, I'm so glad Fripp works with them and vice versa from time to time. Steven's done a great job with the Crimson remasters. Camel are excellent, only listened to one album but I'll be looking into them more now.

I need a new PT fix, it's like a drug... Anyone got a live BAND version of 'Stars Die'???

^Sadly I don't have a full band version of Stars Die live. Only the We Lost The Skyline version with SW solo; and a bootleg of the Tel Aviv solo acoustic gig with SW and Aviv Geffen.
Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

Really glad they played Stars Die live when I saw them sucks that they haven't released it though...

They should release the live version from the Anesthetize recordings as an MP3, they could use that for the Mick Karn fund.

Yeah, as consolation for leaving it off the DVD, they ought to offer Stars Die as an MP3 download.

Can you remember much about it progkidjoel? Was it still laid back and acoustic based? How did they do the chorus?

Oh by the way, I got my Pain Of Salvation album yesterday, the latest one. I'm very impressed. Although I don't really see the Zep comparisons, I hear 'Focus' more than anything... It really does sound like it was recorded in the 70's which is obviously what they were going for. I've already uploaded it to my i-pod and I'm listening to it in work. This is the sort of thing the Kings Of Leon should have done, rather than sell out and go commercial.

^ Kings of Leon? Confused LOL

Yeah, I just got TPE by PoS... and I actually like it; I'm usually not a big fan of prog-metal, but it's a pretty diverse and eclectic album.

BTW, any word on the Nil Recurring reissue yet? I find it odd that they've been delaying it for a while now.  Hopefully when it is released, they include some bonus tracks or something with it.

Quite a bit luckily, it was my favourite track from the live show.
It was still pretty spacey and acoustic sounding SW did the acoustic guitar and Wes did the eletric parts if I remember correctly... SW did the same vocals as on the We Lost The Skyline Version (one octave higher than studio) and Wes was at the same pitch. Wes also did open electric chords with tons of reverb and chorus (like SW does at the chorus of The Sound Of Muzak on the Arriving Somewhere... DVD).

Anecdote:

I was listening to "Insurgentes" this morning.  My youngest asks: "What's the name of that song?"

"Harmony Korine. Why?"

"The way the singing and the other stuff--you know--the drums is is neat".

"Do you like it?"

"Yeah--it's neat".

"Oh. Okay. Good".

She was intrigued by the structure of the song--the slower melodic vocal lines over the busy drums.  She's 11--big fan of Hannah Montana and Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber and that teeny crap.

Raise 'em up right...... :D

^ Best thing to do would be to completely immerse them in the world of Prog Rock, particularly SW's world!  They'll forget all about Hannah Montana and Justin Bieber. Thumbs Up

Recently listen to a couple of albums I hadn't before, Deadwing and The Incident. Deadwing is utterly amazing, but I was slightly disappointed with The Incident. Maybe it just needs some more listens, but it only had a few good moments to me, much less of an immediate impact. It could still grow on me yet though :)

The Incident kind of hit me as brilliant when I first heard it, but I understand that others don't really like it right off the bat.  Give it a few more listens and I'm sure you'll get it. ;)

I still don't find it great. I've listened countless times. I think the second CD is a bit uninspired. I wonder if Mr. Wilson has too much creativity being spread around. Just a thought.

^The guy is very prolific, true. Maybe he should cut back on the side projects a bit (for my wallet's sakeLOL) And focus more energies on PT

But I do like the Incident. It's probably my favourite album of 2009.
