From losing reviews to not being able to post on the forums there are tons of glitches on the site. I just spent over an hour and a half trying to post this rather interesting interview I did with Rainer Wahlmann ( dies irae, Green Wave ). What really ticks me is that I put a lot of work into preparing the questions and the man took the time to answer them. And It's a pretty amazing interview.

I'm getting very frustrated with wasing all this time.Angry

You should get a newer computer... Maybe something from the 17th century? Tongue

What kind of errors are you getting Ian? Are you seeing Server or SQL Error messages, or is the page just buggering off onto some other random web page? (usually a page from your browser Favorites list).

I've always found the edit box to be problematic and gltichy, I've tried Internet Explorer, Opera, Firefox and that Googly Chrome thing and they all bomb at some point or other. I strongly recommend using an off-line editor or word processor for any long reviews and posts and then cut and paste the text from that into the reply box.
What?

The best way to experience PA and the forum is to use recent browser IE8, Firefox 3, Chrome, Opera.

Since PA features are more and more adapter and optimized for theses new browsers , it always good to upgrade when possible.

^ That doesn't fix the problem M@X ... if you type too fast in the reply box or hit a wrong key-sequence the page reloads or loads a different page and the work is lost, that seems to be independant of which browser I'm using (I generally stick with IE8)

Dean,

I understand. There is always the option to change the EDITOR to TEXT ONLY ?
I will check if one member can change his preferences to replace the HTML EDITOR to PLAIN TEXT.

Yes

... there is an option

Enable the WYSIWYG post editor (ON/OFF)
Only browsers that are detected as being Rich Text Enabled will have this feature available when posting.

Sounds like a good option for power users / posters ?

Just back from a "holiday".....

I will post a new interview now and see if this works/if there is still a glitch.

If I can make it work and he/she cannot make it work, Vibrationbaby sends me the interview and I post it and credits it to him/her.

I don't have any problems but then I haven't posted many reviews lately. What I have learnt is that you should ALWAYS ALWAYS type them in Notepad, Word or something first, then save them and then copy and paste into PA. That way, if anything does go wrong you just paste it again.

Oh No... I've just switched that on and it's dreadful - All I can see in your quote box is crap-loads of DHTML like this:

Quote span ="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 1px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 1px;

That's not going to work.

I'll just post the interview along with some personal photos he sent me on my personal website ( that I never have a problem with )  and someone can lift it from there. I don't have time to play around with computers. Really. To tell the truth they really don't interest me either. I remember when the site was young there weren't all these problems. This is why I don't write that many reviews anymore because I've lost so many with that time expired glitch.. They guy has also sent me a bunch of mp3s which he's given me permission to use on the site.

My friend even tried to copy and paste it on the site and couldn't do it on his more modern computer.. That's when I tried to type it in and got this time expired thing twice.

M@X - that "time expired thing" Ian is referring to is an SQL timeout message like this:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '800nnnnn'

Timeout expired

Hmm, time to switch to Linux, maybe? Big smile

I would guess this is what happens when the SQL server gets too many requests at once.

Yes, I went to Future Shop, the local experts in electronics who deal with everything from computers to large TV screens and I asked for a technician and he even couldn't do this and gave me an explanation in computereese why it couldn't be done. So I said to him "it's the site then?" and he said "yeah it's the site". So I dunno. I've got a really great interview and it can't be posted. What really irks me is that I spent a lot of my spare time on this. What I'm going to do is post it on my personal site and link it and whoever wants to read it can go there.

Maybe you should ask toroddfuglesteg - he manages to post loads of interviews without a problem.

I have. Now someone else is telling me it's the f**king goddam server. Why do these computers always f**k up.. When I was growing up we had something called mail. You put something in a box or envelope that you wanted to send to someone and  went to the corner put it in a red box and then a man in a truck would come and empty everything people put in the red box and put it in his truck and take them to a big post office  warehouse where they were sorted according to where each item was supposed to go and a few days later they would arrive at their destination. You get the gist.

When I was in the air force I flew the plane ( the F-111C ) you see in my signature. Although the plane looks quite modern it was from the 1960s and was used in the Vietnam war. It had a goddam computer added to  it in later years which was operated by the navigator who sat beside me. The thing would always die on us and either we would have to scrub the mission or go on manual. The computer was supposed to allow the aircraft follow terrain at low level avoiding obstacles and adjusting to changes in terrain features. About 8 aircraft were lost as a result of the computer screwing up and flying the aircraft into the ground killing 16 good men.

Now I don't have the time to post this rather excellent interview that I conducted in June because I am busy for the next few days because of a goddam computerAngry. I am seriously considering getting rid of it.
I'm going to go and have few beers.

Now that I have calmed down and have a few beers in me, and since I'm a nice guy I will make one final noble attempt to MANUALLY type in the interview. Tomorrow. Unfortunately no pictures that I had planned. But something has to be done about this timeout expired thing man. Do something because I am not the only guy who is encountering this goddam problem.Big smile
