mmmmm... I would put that one as third, actually. I guess Brave and Marbles are just about even for me... it really depends on the day. Afraid of Sunlight does have "Out of this World," though, which is a wonderful track! |

Yes, she loves the yard. Man, everything grows so quickly though, I'm always cutting or trimming one thing or another. We have this "Mock Orange" shrub that I've come to call "Don King" because of the way it grows. Don needs a haircut this week-end. Oh well, it keeps me out of trouble, and I often keep my iPod on ... it's a great way to listen to Marillion.
Keep well.

I'd absolutely love to pop over for the convention, although school and other commitments definitely don't allow for that right now... After I've finished school though, I'm definitely going to have a gap year and travel, hopefully with a Marillion convention somewhere in the itinerary Putting on Afraid Of Sunlight now following the conversation... Man, I can't believe I called this album 'dull' when I first bought it! Such a wonderful disc. |

With the exception of a few songs, as a whole Afraid Of Sunlight just sort of lurks. A lot of the songs are constructed on what some consider the lighter side, but there's such an intensity about them. Even the slower songs. Especially the title track. I'd put it up there with Marillion's most intense songs ("Mad", "The Invisible Man", etc.) Just an outstanding album throughout.

Have no illusions, Ivan is a very good guy and not a troll. Although I didn't agree with his input on the Hogarth thread, he shouldn't be considered a 'troll'. He and I (along with H.T.) worked really hard on getting the Neo section of Progarchives back into shape and he puts a lot of effort into this site. Ivan has VERY strong opinions and isn't afraid to voice them--we shouldn't fault him for that. I just don't think that was the forum to express those particular views, but the guy isn't a 'troll'. Eric, I've seen Ivan get into these things in other threads and he is relentless, never compromising and never reaching any kind of resolution. How must the poor guy feel who started the thread just looking for a rec. to see it hijacked in the way it was. I'll even accept the 'none' of H era as a rec., but then he reposted with "boring and no imagination".
The problem is he sees his opinions as fact, not opionions. IMHO
Don't want to argue with you my friend and if you say he has worked hard to improve the neo section, I accept that. I was making a joke out of what I thought was an unfortunate happening on the other thread.

Kenmar, I'm not coming down on you or anyone. I'm not saying that he was right or that I agreed with anything he said; but, I consider a troll as someone who is fleeting and who is there just to butt heads. Ivan's really not like that. He is extremely relentless (he's an attorney, so it's in his nature) and opinionated. Do I agree with him on many things? Of course not. I found it 'unfortunate' as well and still believe that he and Friede should've just bypassed the thread altogether...even after the author clarified to them that he was looking for suggestions on what to get and not a 'thumbs up or down' ruling on Marillion altogether. The whole thing was unfortunate. E |

Wow, I've always thought Iván - I don't know him, but from his reviews - to be an opinion-motivating person, but from what I've read at the Hogarth-era thread... He was dragging on about, what people would have said or implied - a word which one, IMO, should never use on a site such as PA, because of the many people here whose first language isn't English and who then are being "attacked" for things they would have implied, but haven't meant that way, all due to their influency in the English language (which, by the way, was nót the case here, in my opinion) - and he kept "mierenneukend" - which literally is Dutch for "f**king ants" and means that he noted every flaw or detail in his in this discussion " opponents' " postes and pointed them out and used these as arguments or "cards" in the discussion against his "opponents" - and thus missing the point of the whole thread: with which Hogarth-era albums the author should start; not if he should start. Now, he might have been right about some things he has said in the relatively long discussion, but he kept rambling on about, how he had the right to "advice" the author not to purchase any h-era Marillion CD, but in my opinion he did not have that right, because it was nót a good or proper answer to the author's initial question. I don't know if it's his attorneyish character, but was it too difficult for him to acknowledge that he was wrong with his initial response? I just read the whole thread and I was strongly offended by his behaviour - not very much, that he initially had missunderstood the question, because we are not freeking flawless gods, but especially that he kept on raging after the author had kept no room left for any doubt anywhere whatsoever - and thus wanted to let you know, what I thought about it. I hope you all have understood me the way I mented all this, being it that my first language is not the English one and I tend to be quite long-winded when I speak or write.
Now, on to the point of the whole story - not that it has anything to do with the above, but it was for what I had come online at this late hour (it being around a quarter to three in the morning here in Holland!) -: I have watched Brave Live 2002 this afternoon and it was a pure bliss! I actually cried with a friend of mine next to me - who was not crying: this was my friend's, who is no particular Marillion fan, first time watching Brave Live and hearing Brave - on the couch due to all the emotion: beautiful - I have to admit, I am a rather emotional type of 18-year-old bloke, who also cries at films like Love Actually, Pretty Woman and Notting Hill: let's keep things in their perspectives! The point is that Brave is an utterly brilliant painting of emotions and that I wanted to share that with you =)
And now I'm "heading for the great escape" (that is: my bed!) ^.^

The first time I decide to stop in on the Marillion thread (I've been listening to a lot of Marillion lately ) I see a reference to the "Hogarth album suggestions" thread I recently started. Strange is the only way in which I can describe this.
In my personal opinion, I didn't think Ivan was reacting to the thread in the correct way, but it really was no big deal... I guess he just really doesn't like Steve Hogarth (I couldn't know why, he seems like a nice guy) .
Besides that, I was wondering if anyone could help me out: I've been looking to purchase a live DVD of the Fish-era Marillion. I figured it'd be better to ask some of you guys, considering this thread is dedicated to the band, and I'm sure you all know what's best . Thanks for all the help in advance.
I was just listening to Script, and well... It really has grown on me; it's a bit better than Misplaced Childhood, but both are 5 Star albums in my opinion. Masterpieces.

Jordan, I mentioned the thread you started because this thread had been silent for I while and when I started reading the thread you started I found out why.
Anyway, recital of the script is probably the best of the Fish era videos.
the most recent DVD " Out of Season" of the 2009 convention is incredible.
welcome, kenmar

Well, ptck, If you can get you hands on Brave Live 2002 you really mustn't let that opportunity slip! It is a DVD pretty hard to get - though I think most of the regular Marillionates around this thread own a copy - besides that Marbles on the Road is really good and I'd really recommend that latter one - knowing that Out of Season might be a bit expensive; if you've got the money, however, you should buy that one!
Then there is Somewhere in London; I haven't seen that one yet, but from what I've heard it'd be as good as Marbles on the Road. My advice is: Buy Out of Season - if you want to spend a bit more on this DVD (£29,99) Buy Marbles on the Road - if you don't want to spend a bit more on this DVD (£9,99) Joren

Probably Live At Loreley would be your best bet, if you're wanting an overview of the entire Fish era. E |
