Having lead and influenced the metal scene well before Iron Maiden left diapers and only shortly after Black Sabbath, JP's influence over every metal (prog and otherwise) band out there cannot be denied. I would go so far as to say the Priest sound and style spawned the later speed / power metal sound as acknowledged by the great Slayer and others.
With dead defying vocal acrobatics and the still famous two pronged guitar attack / dual lead of Tippon and Downing Priest have provided many fine and well... great attempts, at prog several times throughout their career. Quoted constantly throughout prog-archives it's time they got their golden star. To name a few prog moments: - The entire Rockarolla album (one of the most underrated albums in history in my view) - Much of the magnificent Sadwings album (better watch out for the rip-peeeeerrrrr) - Turbo Lover - Their most recent album Nostradamus Lend your support and let's get a vote so large that the priest can not longer be ignored !

Very interesting question! The Nostradamus-album is indeed progressive! Some of their older material has progressive moments and they are one of the main inventors of the riff based metal. I would however call most of their material heavy metal. After additions of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Budgie and many others it is perhaps time to add this classic metal group as well.

For me they're in that category of artists which I have no interest in exploring and being there means I have no comment.

No way man. I love Judas Priest, but if we continue adding bands to the site just because they made one or two prog related album, the next thing will be NOFX added because of The Decline or Sonic Youth because of The Diamond Sea.

It was during the dark of night near the witching hour when the metal bands all clandestinely arrived.

Rocka Rolla is quite diverse, maue not too progg, but still quite forwardthinking.
The albums after that one up to Stained Class are quite technical in places (at least for those times). For that, I think they would fit in well with prog-related. |

Well yeah, they rock, but so does Motorhead, Kiss, and Bue Cheer. Rockin' does not make proggin.' No way.

The only album that really appealed to me was 'Sad Wings of Destiny' particularly 'Victims of Change' with that cracking riff.

Let me emphasize Rocka Rolla is one of pioneers in Stoner Rock Scene.
Agreed that they should be fit for Prog-Related. |

I don't think they should be in here, even though the first two albums some prog related moments.

I think this is another example of people thinking this site is for bands who are good/important.

As a reminder, if you're interested in reviewing Judas Priest albums, you're very welcome to do it in MetalMusicArchives: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/judas-priest.aspx

Yes, Judas Priest on Metal Music Archives, not Prog Archives (by the way, I'm typing this message while wearing a Bolt Thrower t-shirt. Just to make clear I'm far, far, very far from being anti-metal).
