Wow.  We went from an elderly woman getting tazed, to wether or not police are crooked, to drug use: is it wrong?, to discussing the morals of a thief. Confused

Even the non-music board is progressive LOL

After a while what can you add to the discussion? Wink
I will now add, that hospitals typically have restraints in stock and as much as I hate to second guess not having been there, tasering a bed ridden woman was probably excessive.  The surprising thing was that it actually made it into the news.

Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

You forgot the prostitutes.

And many of these shifts were caused by me.  Oh well, this will be the last time I comment in a controversial topic for a while.

And food doesn't pay the rent. I still agree that the honest person stealing before they starve is rare, but the dishonest person who is in a problem that he created will still starve if he doesn't do something.

The fact that many (or most?) prostitutes are drug addicts is a symptom of a larger societal problem and not something I think we should judge them for.

I think everybody in this thread should watch The Wire.

I didn't see your post Henry...but anyway, lolwut?

How easy it is to steal doesn't excuse you from stealing.  If you've made other poor choices in life, they don't excuse you from stealing.  If you need your rent paid, that doesn't excuse you from stealing.

As for prostitutes being drug addicts, there's plenty of people coping with the "larger societal problem" who didn't turn to either.

Speaking of disingenuous, of course it's easier to steal from the store you work at.  You're at Best Buy, right?  They have single items for $400.  I've never seen a $400 steak at the grocery store.

Same thing, then (although I would hope they don't sneak beds past you Henry Wink).

Also, if someone has a computer and the Internet to sell things on eBay, they must not be doing that bad.  None of my poorer relatives have computers.  They don't steal either.

C'mon Rob, they MUST steal.  I mean, if they're poor, it's OK to steal.  Tell your rellies to embrace their victimhood, man.  Wink   Justice!

I'd have a very tough time looking someone who stole food to feed themselves or their kids in the eye and condemning him for doing that. Illegal, sure. Wrong, harder to say...or maybe easier depending on which ancient book you follow.

You can test a man's principles by his actions.  Maybe thieves will target the homes of some of the people in this thread.  I wonder if the cops would be called.  Ermm

Maybe all the problems in the world will go away if you keep ignoring. Yes, keep ignoring.

The root of stealing has very little to do with economic conditions. Riiiight.

Just keep ignoring.

What's on TV?

Lots of people with plastic surgeries who can't think of a better way to waste money.

Closing, You're right, much better to send kids the message there's no right or wrong, and that they can't succeed on their own.  That's working SO great for us.  Keep telling them that they are victims, and that being poor is an excuse to fail.  It's great stuff.

I'm not ignoring anything, I just find your position on this disturbing, short-sighted, and sad.

LOL You saying it's not the issue is just plain ignorant. It is extremely hard to help yourself if you don't have the means to do so. If you're uneducated you do don't have many options. If you say otherwise then you flat out don't know how the world works. At the same time no one here was condoning the actions. I'm saying most people simply do not understand the situation they're under so they can't judge. You may say you were once poor but I highly doubt you were anywhere near poverty. What it comes down to is the fact that if you want to help someone you throw them a lifesaver; you don't turn your back on them completely.

Comments like yours make me wonder if this is a place I want to hang around.

My wife and I work our asses off for ourselves and our children.  If someone- and I don't care how poor- enters my home aiming to help himself to our belongings, he may damn well end up leaving with less than he came in with.

Ok, I'm ignorant and I'm lying about my family history.  Goodnight IreneLOL

Seriously, no hard feelings.  I'm as dumbfounded by your thought process as you are of mine.   You throw them a lifesaver, yes, we just disagree on how that is best accomplished.

Do hang around, Closing.  Don't leave because the place has diversity of opinion.  That's a good thing.
