I first saw this film when I was still a kid, and it certainly left an impression on me. It remains to this day one of my favorite horror films, and its impact on my taste in cinema is surely profound.
I would like to know if any others here feel just as I do, that the film has deserved all the praises it has gotten over the years, and that it still holds up today. Or perhaps some folks here find the film to be a bit overrated. Some may even think the film is being overshadowed by more modern horror hits like The Ring, and should be given more recognition. Whatever your opinion, I would love to discuss this movie with you. Captain Howdy and I await your responses.

It was a good film, well done and all that. Great atmosphere. I don't know if it deserves all the praise it gets though. Maybe it's a bit overrated. I saw Scary Movie's parody of it before I saw the actual thing, and had heard a lot about it, maybe it lessened the effect.

One of movies that I should love most. When this movie is broadcast in Japan, some scenes are deleted. However, because all scenes are collected to DVD, I like to see them. The scene of "Spider Walk" was an impact for me. Postscript Of course, Japan has some good horror movies. It is hoped that they are evaluated in foreign countries. |

^Can you imagine that I have never seen that famous spider walk never ever...? well, I have seen the movie several times now but always on cable and they have the edited version, I guess the spider walk was too much for TV airing so I want to get the DVD but I have not found it in Guatemala and maybe I'm too chickensh*t to actually buy it by Internet so... even I only have seen the TV edit, I can say it deserves the praise, it has a weird atmosphere and the special effects are not that great but even in our computer era the movie doesn't get dated. So... it deserves the place...

Ringu is really the only Japanese horror film that is common public knowledge over here, unless you count Anime. For what it's worth, I find J-horror to be must more cerebral and disturbing than most American scary fare. The Exorcist is one of the few exceptions for me.

Once I saw the unabridged edition of the film, the edited version pales in comparison. You really haven't seen it until you've seen the restored scenes.

I'm not going to vote, because I have mixed feelings about it. I think the first hour and a half is a snoozefest, but the last half hour is epic and totally deserving of all praise.

I didn't see it until it was re-released in the theatres. It does tend to drag, but that may be an effect of everything getting "faster" and our attention spans getting shorter in the years since. It's well-acted, and definitely a landmark. I'd say it's deserving.

I prefer less obvious terror movies, the excess of ketchup and green vomit is repulsive and excessive. An example of good terror is "The Shining", except for the two bloody girls, the most terrifying moments are when Jack Nicholson's son goes in his tricycle through endless corridors and you only listen the noise of the wheels, it keeps you at the edge of the seat expecting for something hat never happens, That's a class of terror and suspense..Movies like The Exorcist and Friday 13 abuse of the effects, when the real terror is in the panic created with the excellent use of suspense. ![]() When people said that find it boring, well, many people said the same about Apocalypse Now or The Godfather, but it's just a different time of Cinema, the slow pace is made for developing the tension of the film.
I like more the scene were the girl is posessed and she is seen through the window and the figure of pazuzu is shown on the back... creepy...
