Glad to know there is at least one other passionate Metal Gear fan on here! This one is taking place between SoL and GotP, telling us how and why Raiden endud up the way he was in GotP. Should be good to get that bit of story filled in. I may add your name to my friends on PSN, if that's cool. Not sure how many games we would have in common, though. |

Silent Hill 8
Metal Gear Solid: Rising Twisted Metal sequel Maybe possibly GoldenEye and the Parasite Eve spinoff thing Fable 3 Motion control is retarded. Has been on the Wii, will be on other systems. But apparently Microsoft decided that games are not important, so anyone who buys their worthless product (spoilers: no one will) will have to enjoy petting animals that aren't there. It's a gimmick. But at least with the Move and Kinect there's the possibility of good graphics too so we're not shackled to play Mario spinoffs and kiddie games all the time (though we probably will play simply crap games with early XBOX launch-quality graphics). I also can't get too excited about anything Nintendo did, except for Goldeneye, though I haven't looked into it. I've never cared for Mario, Donkey Kong, or Kirby, except for Mario Kart games. Maybe they have good gameplay. Whatever. I like a good mature story. Nintendo has provided exactly one game I know of for that in this generation (Shattered Memories) and even that was a reinterpretation of an already-made game. Maybe I should look into the 3DS, but handhelds don't appeal to me that much (but I really wish Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was not only on the dam PSP. No one has a PSP!). Nintendo apparently will never be able to shake its cash cow series, and even though they sometimes come out with a game with great gameplay and something that is truly fun that all people can enjoy, they are a kiddie game company. And with the Wii, they managed to really sink their teeth into the middle aged and old people demographic with their wonderful line of trashy gimmick games (let's all workout). I kind wish I had something better to say about the other two, though. They're not much bett-SPACE MARINES! Also, were there any promising games that aren't sequels, or were they just drowned out? I'm starting to feel games are getting pathetic (excuse me while I nonetheless can't stifle my excitement for Fable 3). Edited by stonebeard - June 19 2010 at 12:05 |

^ I'll take good gameplay over mature story any day when it comes to games. Although a well-written story is certainly a plus. Personally, I don't think too many games have succeeded in that. MGS, Mass Effect, typically any story-based Star Wars game and Silent Hill are exceptions, but for the most part, I'm looking for good gameplay.
Take Ninja Gaiden, for example. That's an absolutely amazing game, but its story is total crap. But I will agree with you that Nintendo is all about recycling old franchises. However, those games are typically still really good, and people enjoy playing them, so I don't really blame that company for sticking with what works. They are on top of the gaming world again after Sony's screw-up with the initial launch of the PS3, and they want to make sure they stay on top. As long as they keep selling the most units, they aren't going to change any formula. I'm no fanboy to any particular console or community; I play what I like. I just happen to really enjoy what I see this year from Nintendo. That hasn't happened to me ever since the 64 days. To me, that's saying a lot. I don't know how long Nintendo can keep the real games coming, but you must admit the roles have changed around this year; now Sony and Microsoft are all about gimmicks and casual play, while Nintendo is showing real games with real substance again. Really? I lost faith in Nintendo since 64 and I felt that the playing is for kids while Sony is more for story telling more mature and strong... as a Resident Evil addict I can say I prefer way more that kind of games but with all this Wii revolution, seems like people only want to waste time and as you say casual play... while I want story... but well, not every game is flawless and you have to stay with what is there...
your example of Ninja Gaiden is very accurate. Great game... shame that there's no story worth to play... but you still play it...!!!

I used to hate it, and still do for most games, and it took me a while to get any good at uncharted 2, but yeah I'm not that hardcore with it. To Progkidjoel as well, feel free to add me if you'd like. My PSN name is Angus McHaggus Edited by JJLehto - June 19 2010 at 23:59 |

My PSN name is ilostmymind
I'll be playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer all week, since I'm too broke to get anything new. Stonie, we are in 2010, complaining about casual games and motion control is so 2007 We've moved on to complaining about 3D.

I traded a bike of mine for a PSP just so I could play Peace Walker, and I don't even like handhelds. And now Kojima wants me to buy a 3DS so I can play pretty much the best game ever made in 3D without glasses! MGS Rising, and Ghost Recon Future Soldier were the highlight of the show for me. Deus Ex Human Revolution, Dead Space 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Infamous 2, Gears of War 3, Spec Ops The Line, Red Faction Armageddon also look awesome. P.S. Motion controls are still lame.

Accepted your friend request Joel, forgot it was you until I checked this thread
As for Red Dead Redemption I've heard nothing but praise, but some talk how its really dull. I guess it's just what you're into. My brother and best friend thought it was "good" but just boring and ended up selling it. They like sandbox and all so I dont know |

^ Gaming journalists these days look at production values more than the gameplay itself, I think. No doubt Red Dead looks gorgeous, but how much actual fun it is to play will still hinge on which individual is playing it. Take a chance and rent the damn thing. That's what I'm going to do with Alpha Protocol. And the reviewers hated that one.

F*ck journalist and official reviews, I've always gone by friends and "regular people". As I said, my brother and best friend were the ones that said red dead was "good" but dull, and both have now sold it One game I am intrigued by is Alan Wake. Might have to play it when my brother is working Edited by JJLehto - June 22 2010 at 13:48 |

Alan Wake has a good story, voice acting, flow, and all that. The action gets a little monotonous. Don't buy it, rent it. However, the real name of the game should be: Forest Wake Wow I really have writer's block don't I--OH GOD IT'S DARK NOW WHY IS THERE A FOREST HERE ALL OF A SUDDE--OH SH*T FORESTS EVERYWHERE! So, kind of like Red Dead? Good game, just dull?
I can see it, from what I've seen looks pretty cool, and a unique game with an interesting story indeed but I'm not sure. Maybe a rental is a good idea |

No, Red Dead is an amazing game besides some stiff gameplay mechanics. One of the best stories you're going to find in gaming. I'm sure it's the setting that's not everyone's cup of tea, which is probably why your friends might not have liked it. This is coming from someone who was unable to finish any GTA due to boredom.
As for Alan Wake, Stone is correct with calling it Forest Wake. The action does get a little monotonous as does the setting, and the story is about a cliché King as it gets (although they wear their influences on their sleeve). But it does a great job of putting you in a Stephen King movie, which is pretty awesome sauce imo. |

I'll have to look into Alpha Protocol as it's Obsidian that make it, I believe. They usually make a good job of their games...
