This is my first time ever playing it. I missed out the first time around. I'm absolutely loving it. Clap

I'm losing very very much time at the moment on MarioKart and the two Zeldas for DS. But what a great loss of time!
Stop me from dreaming?

After going close to 10 years without one, I finally reacquired a NES.  I picked up 3 interesting games with it: Rambo, Mission Impossible, and Legacy of The Wizard.  Not the best games, but fun nonetheless.

Except with Fallout, which was Chris Avellone too. Wink

I've been playing Jade Empire and it's a bit too linear for my tastes but it's still enjoyable.

*Finally* got KOTOR 2 about ~3 weeks ago. Absolutely nothing on the original, but still a great game.

Yeah....I liked it, since it was EXACTLY KOTOR...but it just was not as fun for me. Something a lil different. But it was alright.

Now working my way through God of War 2

The original felt really, really well planned and developed, whereas the sequel really feels rushed and lazy in places. I hope they release an actual KOTOR 3, other than the MMO.

Agreed. Also early on in KOTOR 2 I remember it frustrated the hell out of me. Like the Citadel?
I forget it's been a looong time. But yeah.

Let's see:

Risen: 6/10. Environment looks decent, story is alright, but the combat is buggy and lame. You'll go from taking 5 minutes of careful battle to kill an Ogre to 3 slices just by upgrading your weaponry. Of course, the ogre will still kill you in one hit and can bash your shield out of the way. The game goes from absurdly-difficult to absurdly-easy in seconds. Not to mention all the time you spend annoyed to hell that your enemy hits you without attacking and so on. It's messy, for sure, but it's still a neat game with lots to uncover if you have the patience to do so, and the environment looks pretty good. Female character models look incredibly bad, though, and character models in general are pretty ugly.

Prototype: 5/10. Game has an identity crisis. It can't decide whether it wants to be a platformer or an open-world game or a story-driven game. In the end, it does a little of everything, has some neat ideas, but just doesn't turn out to be as fun as it should. Targeting system is awful and makes some challenges just painful to accomplish. Controls in general are a bit iffy, sometimes not working quite as well as you might hope. That said, it's not a bad game, it's just not great.

Alpha Protocol: 7/10. Certainly an ambitious game, your choices impact the game in really remarkable ways. As a western-style RPG, it really nails the sense of choice. There could be a little more interaction and character detail, though. You'll make some choices which aren't nearly as hard at first because you know so little of the characters involved. In subsequent playthroughs, though, you hit a bit of dramatic irony. The game certainly keeps on giving and is definitely worth multiple playthroughs. The minigames are really excellent, though the choice of using the mouse as an input device is suspect at times. My mouse allows my to switch to a higher DPI on the fly, which really helped me get through, but gamers without such luxuries will certainly be frustrated when they click the mouse only to have the cursor move to a different spot and set off an alarm. The combat system is also a bit rough around the edges. Enemies can't see you when they really should sometimes and other times they'll have almost a sixth sense in finding you. The aiming system is also a bit dodgy. You can hardly hit the broad side of a barn when you don't have training with that weapon type. While the system is better than, say, Mass Effect's system, it's not nearly as effective as the way it was done in Deus Ex. All in all, the game is rough around the edges, but what it lacks in polish it makes up for in ambition. It's a good game, but not a great one.
Hail Eris!

Anyone been paying attention to E3? I am incredibly excited for the coming year. Nintendo announced a new Kirby, Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye for Wii as well as showed off Zelda: Skyward Sword, Metroid: The Other M and Epic Mickey! Plus the 3DS with Kid Icarus as a launch title.

Some really great stuff.

Unfortunately, Sony and Microsoft have failed to grab me just because I am clearly not in their target audience, i.e., I have near zero interest in first-person shooters and sports titles. Sony for some reason failed to show off the Last Guardian (latest title from Team Ico, creators of the brilliant Ico and Shadow of the Colossus), arguably the best game they have in their upcoming lineup.

Some sweet downloadable games on the 360 and PS3 coming though but unfortunately downloadable titles are rarely mentioned during these huge shows.

Thoughts?

I've been BEASTING! Seriously, pretty damn good.

Speaking of which, Joel what is your psu name? We can see if we have any of the same games LOL And hopefully play together and blast prog at the same to drive our opponents insane!

That game is glitchy as all hell. I gave up after I wasn't allowed to progress in the spaceport stage simply because I didn't complete the tasks in the order the game thought I should. It's an RPG, folks. Varied choices should be anticipated! Angry

Incidentally, the company that developed KOTOR 2, Obsidian, has recently decided to create an original RPG of their own: Alpha Protocol. From what I am hearing in reviews, it's just as buggy and unfinished as any other game this sorry excuse for a developer has made in recent years. Pretty disappointing, since I was really looking forward to that game when it was first announced.

I don't think I was the Joel you were talking to, but I could also befriend you on PSN and you could kick my ass at Uncharted's multiplayer, if you wish. Embarrassed I've owned my PS3 for over three years, and still have yet to make any online friends. Mainly because I suck at multiplayer, but hey, it's all fun and games, right?

I actually think this was one of Sony's best years in recent memory. Sure, there were only a couple of fresh announcements (Portal 2 on PS3 & the new Twisted Metal game), but on the whole, they succeeded at what press conferenced are meant to do; they got me excited about Sony products in the near future. The Move actually looks fairly promising, and I'm a cynical prick when it comes to motion control, so that's saying something. I do think they spent too much time pushing their upcoming 3D games, because nobody is going to invest in that just yet, but overall, a well-done event.

Microsoft was really bad this year, in my opinion. No price was given to the Kinect yet, and the demonstrations were still really laggy and impractical. The only games that were successfully demonstrated using Kinect were party games and fitness games. Anything serious or aimed at the core gaming audience was virtually nowhere to be seen. And since the Kinect seemed to be the main focus of Microsoft this year, that makes for a very weak conference. Not to mention the really amazing stuff from last year promised by Peter Moleneaux were not made good on this year. Doesn't really surprise me, but I was more than a little disappointed nonetheless. Metal Gear Solid looked really good, but that's a multi-platform title, so I don't think Microsoft can really take much credit for that one. And I'm not a Gears or Halo fan, so there you go. Underwhelming, for me.

Nintendo shocked me this time around. Last year was a very poor event for them in my view, with only two announcements I cared about, but this year . . . wow! Zelda looks promising, even though Miyamoto-san had issues with the controls during the demonstration (oops!), but that was only the beginning. As much as I am weary of license titles, Epic Mickey looks like fun. And a new GoldenEye? I hope it lives up to the original in all the ways that matter. I've been saying they should make a new Donkey Kong Country for years . . . looks like they finally agree with me. That looks like a blast! And even though I've never enjoyed a Kirby game before (so shoot me), Kirby's Epic Yarn is gonna be a classic, I just know it. SIde-scrollers are not dead, I tell you! And oh yeah, there's that 3DS thing. SInce they weren't able to show it on the screen, I'll just have to wait until I see it in person before I make my call on it. But apparently 3D versions of Ocarina of Time and Metal Gear Solid are being developed for it, so that makes me smile a bit, I admit.

The highlights of E3 for me:

My new PSN account is WhisperIneffable, my old won't let me do anything anymore; attempts to sync trophies for (literally) hours and then is completely unresponsive until I reboot the PS3

Never played much online though, so it's all good.
Anyone who wants to can add me.

Also, anyone here have Read Dead Redemption? Really considering getting it, all the videos I've seen look great.

Micah, just watched the trailer for Metal Gear Rising, goddamn that looks fantastic. MGS4 is easily one of my top games ever, and the whole series has been perfect. Can't wait for this one
