Why are we talking about bands that suck? This is Progressive Archives. We all know that prog music is the best music ever, and a recent study shows that Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree both sound objectively terrible.
I mean, really. Sure, they might be going in the direction they want to go in. This isn't Direction Archives, people. We do not add a band here just because they have a direction. You know what band had a direction? Nirvana. You want to see them on this site? No. I didn't think so. You know who listens to Nirvana? Americans. You know who lives in America? The KKK. Yeah. That's right, I went there. You keep Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree on this site, and within two years this forum will be dominated by white supremicists plotting to overthrow the evils of tolerance and enlightenment. And then we get shut down and nobody's happy.
So if you guys want to listen to bands that objectively suck, then fine. That's your decision. But don't drag this site down with you.

Not even trolling. Just a hyperbolic stab at some of the crazy arguments that people make against those two bands.
I had thought that would be obvious, but reading back on some of the posts I realized that, no, that sort of logic isn't really too far outside of what gets said sometimes.
EDIT: Whoops. I mean, trolling? No, of course not! That's my opinion! You can't attack that! Wow, prog fans are such snobs. I'm going to go listen to real music. You guys can stay here with your bands that totally suck.

Wasn't it Fripp on Way Out of Here and Nil Recurring?
Wilson's not bad. But if we're talking technical talent, the only person in all of PT that might have anything on any member of Dream Theater is Gavin Harrison. Truthfully, I am currently not too interested in either band, as to my ears, Porcupine Tree is now just playing progressive metal too, but bad prog metal. DT's been playing that game way better for a while. The Incident is just a bad merger of Tool and, well, more Tool. And it just sounds bad.
Fripp supplied only soundscapes for "Way Out of Here," and when I mentioned Nil Recurring (whose title track does feature Fripp on guitar) I meant the mini-album as a whole, not the individual song.
But... you really thought the Incident sounded that much like Tool? It's nowhere near a 5-star album, but, nevermind...

Exactly... if is about technique, only Gavin is on the level, but not even much... and I'm not sure if it sounds like Tool... but if they wanted to walk that way... it was a failure... I don't here too much prog metal on Porcupine Tree... I insist they play like an alternative rock band with long arrangements... and for that, I prefer to hear more like Dredg of Oceansize... but well... let's not bring more bands here... please...

Mike Portnoy is a control freak. Thanks to that, we fans have 6 original DVD's and like 4 live recordings of official bootlegs and like 20 albums of demos besides of the official discography... I like that... we as fans have in record almost everything he is involved into all the time... and that's good...

Please define this, i am confused. real music ?
I think he means cool artists like Eminem and Disturbed, to name a few... you know, bands that are cool...
No way, boy bands are totally back in. All the cool kids listen to Backstreet Boys.
jampa: Well, I guess it is trolling. I didn't think of it that way, though. I just get sick sometimes of all the ridiculous DT bashing that goes on. Just because they're not on the cutting edge of metal doesn't mean we have to obliterate them from the annals of prog history.

Someone just called Eminem a band and it went right by everyone. Maybe it shows you're out of touch. Maybe you're proud to be out of touch in that specific regard.
