It's very good...clearly Mikael got a great education helping out on this Dan Swano solo project...we might not have had the Opeth classics without Crimson.
I have a soft spot for old school goth so those sections really enhance the project for me. I actually bought Crimson on iTunes awhile back and they had chopped it up into "songs" without clean transitions - I lost about 2 seconds with each change. It was terrible, and at the time I didn't know how much I'd lost. I corrected that error and realized I hadn't lost that much. Still, the listening is so much better with a single 40 minute track.
Anyway, it's great. It deserves it's place in our extreme top 10.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Amen, brother! Crimson is in my top 5 albums ever, and I am admittedly a Dan Swanö fanboy (just look at my signature). |

I think I'll join you. Must have been rough playing with both Reinert and Hoglan. Lucky b@$T@RD.

It's warmer sounding than Symbolic (the only other Death album I have). Reinert is much more organic than robo-Hoglan. But Hoglan plays things that sound humanly impossible, and on Symbolic it's perfect. I like the voice on Human better, it's lower, less whiny. Some of the lyrics are better. The guitars on Human are good, but it's almost like an evolution with Symbolic clearly a step forward. I probably need Sound of Perseverance next.
It's hard to say, it took me awhile to warm up to Symbolic, and I've only had Human a few weeks. I was hoping something a little Cynic-like, and it's definitely not that.

I'm not a huge Cynic fan (though I do moderately enjoy their debut), so that's probably a good thing for me! I personally love Human, and it's tied for my second favorite Death album. I would recommend getting The Sound of Perseverance or Individual Thought Patterns next - both of these albums are BIG four star albums (TSOP is almost a 5). |

It's a very pleasing record, though there aren't many memorable melodies whatsoever.

I really enjoy it... I wish it were a bit shorter because by the end it gets a bit tiring, but I think every song has something memorable about it. Some of the riffs on that album are really superb. |
