There is this local band in MD called Time Columns that might turn some heads. They are really an awesome band and I recommend them!

Bump

Hey guys, have any of you registered on metal music archives yet? I feel like it would be a good place to plant another thread like this and get in touch with some fellow metalheads who are a little turned off by the prog rock banner.

^ Itaint a bad idea at all. What's considered "normal" metal nowadays? I'm so desensitized by prog/post rock that i was in a buddies car listening to this band called "Chevelle" yesterday, and i could have sworn i was listening to some R&B, or Britney Spears, or something

Wow, the guitarist of Ahleuchatistas has pulled a "Fripp"; he's now the only remaining original memember... Honestly, for a band that i considered as beyond immensely appealing, i can't get over how awful their latest album sounds to me.

So, wtf guys... Certainly, we're kinda in between new and exciting releases lately, but where is everyone?

I'm pretty excited about seeing "Red Sparowes" next week.... hopefully there'll actually be more than the, 30 people at the most, that attended the Isis/Pelican show i went to last year

You can listen to Jonsi's new album here. They're taking it down when it's released on the 6th.

Really, what was wrong with it? I was bored by the samples I heard from their earlier albums, but I enjoyed the Tzadik much more, although I still didn't buy it. However, I have an emotional attachment to Tzadik, so maybe that is it. I don't think it's entirely fair to say that the bassist and original drummer left because of the guitarist's ego. But I also don't think it was ego that caused Fripp to constantly change line-ups, although Fripp does have an ego.

I wasn't intending to give the impression that it's my opinion that the rhythm section left because the guitarist is a dick, i was just making a music nerd relation Big smile

About the band, i always enjoyed them because of the way they blended together some beautiful (imo of course) polyrhythms. Also, original their percussionist was super genuine without being sloppy or relying solely on fills to be interesting. (actually, i admire him so much, that i'll surely check out any band he plays with in the future.) It's really not even particularly the new drummer that makes their (or his) latest stuff uninteresting to me, it seems that the guitarist didn't even discipline himself enough to bring any new techniques to the table, and it more sounds like sloppy improv. compared to their previous albums. (although, they always did have the tendency to go on jazzy tangents)

Anyways, it really bums me out because they're certainly one of my fav. math rock bands and i was very interested to see how they progressed.

There is www.fierceandthedead.com

"We’re simply blown away and can’t wait to share “Part 1” with our listeners, if that’s okay. Your guitar work is f**king brilliant and the tone is a dream. It’s rare that we get this excited over new musicians (new to us, anyway) and I wanted to share that with you".

^ Well, the album i listen to the most would be "Even In The Midst" which they released in '07,(it's probably their album with the most organized compositions) but i like their debut album "On the Culture Industry" just as much.

The only album i would avoid (pre "Of the Body Prone" of course) is "What You Will"; i've got no excuses for it really, but i found it technically boring compared to their other albums.

hey Dominic, i finaly found time to listen 52 Commercial Road, i find it excellent, very enjoyable post rock, i added them to post rock charts for evaluation, and the funny thing is that they only have 42 listeners on last.fm, such a shame, i hope they will enlarge their fanbase in future, they deserve that. New Ef - Mourning Golden Morning is very good, full of energy, well crafted melodies grabs you instantly,  i like it. New Kammerflimmer Kollektief - Wildling is also nice release, pleasent, smooth, relaxing tunes. Slow Six - Tomorrow Becomes You is very interesting one.Eimog - Scenario is another post rock gem from italy, worth checking out. not a post rock but it has some  post rockysh vibes - Múm, their last album Sing Along to Songs You Don't Know is surely worth mentioning here in this thread. i like it, well combined electronics with rock, after all it's icelandic stuf, i adore everything that comes from Iceland, they just know how  to make good music, lately i become obssesed with icelandic music, check Valgeir Sigurðsson, some electronic, experimental, post rock, whatever his playing he make some hell of a music; Frakkur - Jonsi project, ambient, excellent; Kira Kira some very nice indie rock, but again not the indie we now, but icelandic some, strange but good.Stafrænn Hákon, again indie, post rock, ambient, this icelandic music goes beyond classification

I checked out the track 'Summer' by the band Time Columns that pianoman posted at the top of this page. Some pretty cool ideas in there - I quite liked it. I'll need to delve into some more of their stuff when I get a second, getting a bit late tonight! Hehe.

Always nice to stumble across cool music! Great band name as well, in my opinion.

Might as well link them again: http://www.myspace.com/timecolumns

Well, it's mostly clean vocals and isnt nearly as heavy... And I listen to the group cause I love their heaviness, and ripping vocals. Hopefully the follow up in august will be better.

Well, just got back from seeing Red Sparowes.... super nice and good people, yet i can't really get much into the new album and they pretty much played it exclusively; right away i could notice the difference in dynamics when they played something from the first album, and it was beautiful. Anyways, i certainly don't regret it, and it was nice to see so many people there supporting them.

Doom Riders.... I wanted to escape soo bad, but the venue didn't allow re-entry. The stage presence and personality of their vocalist reminded me alot of Fred Durst, and at one point, when heckled by an audience member, he said "Well, i bet you can't drop into a vert ramp like me!" They also had a "song" about skateboarding.... Yeah

i agree. it sucks a lot. it's so mellow, so lame, lacks energy, lacks heavyness, totaly uninsired. i am dissapointed from this release.

but i have a great news to share with you, i came across this on the net :
Quote  after a decade’s retreat, god’s pee has decided to roll again.

we are, as always, stoked, stubborn and petrified.

between now and the live-dates, there’ll be rivers of noise and distraction. and the internet is a petty tyrannical monster. please remember that really all that matters is the keep on keeping on. and all that really matters is the shows. and physical engagement in the world. and folks like us and folks like you. thanks for understanding, and thank you for still listening.

see you next winter.
