I wasn't sure they could play Choirs live, there's so many layers and it sounds very intense vocally (although it Toby Driver... He can do anything ) did it manage to stay true to the sound of the album? Or be a different experience altogether?

It wasn't 100% accurate, like a few spoken word parts were missing due to practical playability reasons, but it retained the sound of the album....The Manifold Curiosity was as intense as I'd hoped it would be, they had the dynamic contrast down. The screams sounded a little different at points but they were more menacing than the ones on the actual album

^^ Hi Harry, i haven't noticed you here for a while, everything is just fine here..we keep this thread going, updating database with new acts, as far as post rock scene is concerned i haven't spotted some spactacular release so far this year, well it's rather early .. The new Album leaf is great,if you are into electronic/ambient side of post rock; new The Silver Mt. Zion is good also. Debut album by I Hear Sirens is quite good.

Dudez, check out the American dollar. I just got their debut album, and the best word I can use to describe it is blissful! One of the songs features a scarcity rarely found in the genre... A guitar solo!!!

^ A guitar solo in post-rock? You've got to be kidding! So finally I have the time I need and peace of mind, I'll be doing the Semiosis biography today.

Ok so you know that old fairy tale about how older prog-heads don't listen to or like post rock...it's a lie. I'm 48, I listen to it and I love it. However, to be honest, I didn't start listening to it really until about a year ago. Now I'm loving it. In fact, I bought the vinyl for Godspeed You! Black Emperor "Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada" just a few weeks ago. It always sounds best on vinyl. Some of the bands I've found that I like are GY!BE, A Silver Mt. Zion, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Kayo Dot, Russian Circles, Sunn 0))), Red Sparrowes, Baroness, Yndi Halda and I'm finding that I tend to like more and more bands all the time. Anyone got the names to any other great artists out there that I might like based on the above list?

You sir, need Explosions in the Sky Their album 'The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place' is a masterpiece of the genre IMO. God is and Asteronaut are also a good recent discovery to me, a bit more accessible with more conventional song writing. And ISIS are fantastic if you want some heavy stuff. I'm fairly new to the genre (well, I always had some and always loved Sigur Ros, but recently its become my numver one genre) so I don't know any of the more obscure ones, but these keep me going.
Also, pick up anything and everything you don't have from Godspeed, I've yet to hear a dissapointing album from them. And probably never will as they broke up

Synchestra, have you heard Jakob, being a Kiwi band and all. They are the opener for Isis on their latest tour.

@Synchestra, God Speed You! Black Emperor didn't split, the band announced an indefinite hiatus..i hope they will start making some music again..

Thanks for the recommendations. I popped in a copy of Explosions in the Sky at work (not sure which one). I work at a multimedia store, so I can do this Anyway, it definately merits more listening time, but I'll have to do it somewhere where I can concentrate on it. I find this music is best when you can really sit down and listen to it. I also has some Isis on my playlist and have been impressed with what I have heard. I sill check out the others you mentioned too. Thanks!!

Cool here are some bands I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the recommendations. By the way, Efrim Menuck from Godspeed You! Black Emperor has another great band called A Silver Mt. Zion which another awesome band. Check them out and maybe they will help you get by until GY!BE decides to do something new.

Big fan of Avoid the Light. I actually managed to come across a legit copy on CD too in a store a few weeks ago and of course I bought it. It was a huge surprise to see it, because it's extremely hard to find CDs of fairly underground post rock bands in CD stores here

Oceanic and Panopticon are my 2 favorites from Isis, Oceanic just edging out Panopticon but only by a hair. In The Absence Of Truth tends to be somewhat of an acquired taste and isn't as generally well received by post metal fans as Oceanic and Panopticon are, but I like it, but do keep in mind it's a very different sounding album to Panopticon and Oceanic. Hope that helps, Joel

Thanks Harry, I'll see if I can find a copy of either Oceanic or Panopticon soonish; at my favourite store they only have the Holy Tears EP and the Oceanic Remixes, but I'll wait/look around for Panopticon.
