First time a girlfriend and I went to rent a movie I chose Eraserhead explaining to her it was one of the most fascinating uplifting  films I had seen commenting on relationships, the human condition etc. etc. She was an honours student at Queen's University and was a very serious girl. If her GPA fell below 90 % she would enter into deep depression.  At about the part where the chickens start dancing she turned to me and said, " This is a joke right?" I said " No, it's my favourite movie of all time".

We ended up watching Uncle Buck instead. The relationship didn't last much longer after that. She wrote me a dear John letter saying that we were too many philisophical differences between us.

A putrid waste of effort.
I'm going to Netflix it to see if it really is that bad.

OH Now I remember seeing some of Eraserhead. I pretty much watched it all on fast forward, I was watching it On Demand or something and I was really tired. I gotta watch that again at some point.

I actually thought Eraserhead was a pretty cool movie.

I'm probably going to get killed for this, but one very acclaimed movie I didn't enjoy was "Dr. Strangelove."  I found the movie to be painfully unfunny and uninteresting, which is a shame because I enjoyed many of Stanley Kubrick's other films ("Paths of Glory," "Spartacus," "2001," "A Clockwork Orange," "The Shining.")  I can understand it's importance in the time it was made, and I thought that some parts were mild amusing.  Maybe I will understand the humor when I get older.

Okay now.  *puts up flame shield from Equality and BaldJean.*

Dr. Strangelove was hilarious, but I can see why someone might not like it. It is a specific kind of humor, I think.

Go for it man! Watch it with your girlfriend, wife, kids, grandparents, pets. Turn the phone off . It doesn't get any better than this. Do not fast forward because you will miss the whole effect. Geart soundtrack.

The strange thing is that when my Mom came in when I was watching it, she laughed a lot during the scene with the president calling "Dimitri" on the phone.  I was sitting there, thinking, "Why don't I think this movie is funny!"  I could appreciate the artistic direction of some scenes, but there is nothing worse than watching a comedy movie when you could not utter one honest-to-goodness laugh.

I might enjoy it better now, since I saw it over a year ago, and I understand political satire better.

Well, I'd say a lot of the film is black humor. You have to remember it's a comedy about nuclear holocaust.

Most New Movies

All Superhero Movies

All Super Villain Movies

Most Childrens movies

Most Scary Movies

Most movies that don't have a psychological, psychedelic, or sci-fi theme.

Overall I hate movies. I've seen way too many of the things listed above. Scary movies are usually cliched and all the others listed are just dreadful. I'll take books, music, or most other forms of entertainment for that matter over movies.

One wonders why you chose this thread to vent on movies in general.

This was the most relevant thread I have found without having to go searching for one. I am just very angry with movies right now.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Across the Universe" yet.  Basically, that film was just "let's see how many Beatles songs we can put in one movie, and add in faux-surrealistic that looks like they were from the 60's to go with it."  It amazes me how many people were convinced that was some kind of "art" film.

I can't really comment on Harry Potter, I only saw the first one but it was a while ago. I don't remember anything about it, which means that it couldn't have been too great.

I haven't seen Across The Universe either, but I hear that it was completely dreadful from some people, and others think it's the greatest movie ever made.
