Genesis is hugely popular, in part because of Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. And they are influencial. But the Flower Kings are on the cutting edge right now, and have yet to "sell out" like Genesis did after Peter Gabriel left.
It's unfortunate that Pink Floyd has little competition, and unfortunate that Yes vs. Genesis will happen so early.
The Prog Metal section will be very difficult and likely contentious.

I love the incredible sophistication and maturity of Anglagard's second album, which to me isn't derivative at all (a criticism that might be successfully levelled at Hybris, which was to me the inferior work anyway) but Genesis takes the vote simply because they had more material and had an incredibly huge impact on prog, and were one of the founders of symph.

That being said I'm voting for Anglagard. The whole point of these tournaments is the underdog vote. Speaking of which, let's see if we can get Atomic Rooster to at least the quarter finals.

Another vote for The Flower Kings.  I'm sure that's no surprise Tongue.

The interesting thing is that most people who voted for TFK have also made a full post too.  Good taste.

Doesn't matter what was said before and what will be said in future about this poll - this don't affect my choice in any way. The winner is obvious and it's called GENESIS.

And now you can discuss the rest, if you want.LOL

I put in for Anglagard, Even if they're not the most grounded they're the ones I parktake in listening to with the most giddy giggling, screams of delight, and feelings of prog goodness.

I think Yes is up next, or the one after, I don't have Josh's (not so) little chart memorized. I think he's grouping by genre, and grouping each poll into a group of four.

Great.

Big smile

The Flower Kings will most certainly never "sell out" and go pop!

Okay, I'll stop being a cry baby now and only add to the problem of predictability:  Another vote for Genesis.  LOL

Out of those two my votes will be Yes and Echolyn.

I normally don't vote on band vs band threads, but you won me over with your impressive bracket

Genesis for me, mainly because I don't really care for any of the others

The finals were Pink Floyd and King Crimson. King Crimson won.

I also held another one without the "Big 4" and Gentle Giant beat Van Der Graaf Generator in those finals.

I wonder how they would be viewed had they some out at the birth of prog.

I agree - while I love TFK and Anglagard (esp Space Revolver and Hybris, respectively) - Genesis is in a whole different category for me.  Then again, that might have something to do with the fact that my wife gave me Genesis' 1973-2007 live box set for Christmas!

Oh, Renaissance is very nice as well - wish I had been able to catch them on their recent tour...
