I played my Wayside order at 1am 12/11 and it still hasn't shipped, is that normal for them? I kind of expect something faster when I'm paying for it.

I once tried to listen to Ascension.  It was the weirdest and challenging music I've ever heard (that's generally well-regarded.)

His album Om is even weirder and more challenging. It's one 28:49 piece with lots of chanting from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. And supposedly Coltrane took LSD before recording it, but that's more an urban legend.

Last time I made a big order it took a while for it to ship, like a week.

I want to get both of these albums now.  Anything weird and challenging is generally really getting my interest lately.

I thought she was going to her mother's for a while.
Good thing that you didn't invite us all over for beers while she was gone. Wink

She came back because she's upset with her mom now.

There are no less than four computer literate people in that house, and my mother-in-law has to ask my wife to do things on the computer for her.  Angry

But my mother-in-law is upset about something and I think she's just taking it out on my wife.  (Her mother implied that my wife never does anything for her, which of course upset my wife, since my wife is her mother's only child that does sh*t- and does it constantly- for her).
Have you worked out things with your mom yet?  Will she be paying you a visit soon to see her new granddaughter?

Yes, my mom is visiting this weekend.

It's still a little awkward speaking with her though.  She mentioned how she doesn't want to "overstay her welcome," but that was never the issue in the first place.  Disapprove
Good reason or not, I'm sure it still had to sting being told to stay away from her grandbaby. I suspect that any coolness will probably melt as soon as she holds her for the first time however.

Heh, I would think that you wouldn't know weird and challenging until you heard Ascension, but you probably do.  I just got done listening to a Captain Beefheart (an artist that I heard about a year ago and immediately disliked) on Last.fm, and it actually sounded quite normal to my ears now.  Interesting...

There's a 2-disc set on Amazon which includes both of the above along with Kulu Se Mama and Selflessness.  That's looking like it's a worthy purchase.

I agree on Ascension. Still need Om though.

On a somewhat related note, Medeski, Martin and Wood's Radiolarians albums are friggin spectacular.

It wasn't so much that...it's just my whole family was here for an extended time when my son was born and my wife didn't want to breastfeed in front of young males (nor would I allow her).  Plus I wound up playing the host for that whole time, trying to keep everyone accommodated and therefore ultimately failing my wife in supporting her.  The breastfeeding never worked out and my son had to bottle feed, and more than one nurse has asked us (without me mentioning anything!) if there were people causing stress (which keeps breastfeeding from happening).

I just wanted to support my wife and her only this time around.  I feel good doing it to be honest.

For less than $30, you best be asking for that for Christmas. Wink

Indeed, I'm thinking it's a very good possibility.

Personally, I can't understand why someone would consider Ascension a masterpiece.  I don't know about you, but it's way to cacophonus for my tastes.

Trout Mask Replica is one of my favorite albums ever.

I'd give it 5 stars.

But I was once in your shoes, so you never know.

C'mon, tell the truth.  You were probably competing with your son for your new mommy breasts. TongueWink

Anyhow, fair enough.  I can certainly understand your reasoning, I just know that it still has to be tough on your mom.

I've heard that from many people.  When I first heard it, I was very confused why some considered it to be the best album ever.  Now, I can find value in it, but I still wouldn't place it among my favorites.  (About TMR)
