I thought this was interesting, if too long. Sometimes current trends aren't imaginary. My parents never physically disciplined me, it was always time out. Then again, I'm pretty screwed up, so maybe I shouldn't be saying that was no big deal. ;-)

Damn, don't get me started on kid gloves parenting.  There's certainly a time for it, and I think it all depends on the child...but yeah...

I was physically disciplined, but since I have a high pain tolerance it was pretty useless. Smile

I think I might have been spanked once or twice, but that's about it. My parents said time-outs or grounding me usually did the trick. Although I'm kind of with Robert on this one. Depends on the kid. And I think there are multiple "correct" ways to raise one's children.

But maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about since I'm not a parent yet. LOL

The problem is that the underlying thesis has a point: screaming at an angry two year old is just going to create a feedback loop. The little sociopaths might even like it. But then everybody takes things too far.

I was a pretty good kid too, but every once in a while I would do a complete switch, I guess it was a side effect of me being able to put up with so much crap.

From my (limited) experience, this is largely true.  When my son is throwing a tantrum (which is an everyday thing lately), we do find the best solution (generally) is to isolate him for a short period of time if you like.  Call it a time out if you want to...we just remove him from the situation.

I am pretty sure they do like it, I know I did when I was young. It wasn't about being disciplined, it was about making forcing people to put up with my attitude even when they did punish me for it, I didn't get any satisfaction out of getting what I wanted, I got satisfaction out of forcing my parents to allow me to have what I want.

I love this picture.

However, Sally is weird. I googled some of her other photos, and I felt like they would put me in prison.

I've seen someone use that as an avatar, but I've never seen the original. Very good picture though.

Seriously though, one of the first results is three thirteen year old (ish) girls peeing outside, naked. If I hadn't found it on Google I would be freaking out right now.

You know, I should really keep safe search on.

I have safe search on, and they're not filtered, I assume because it's ART. I don't meant to dictate what is and what is not art, and I understand the nudity in small children, but we have to draw a line at some point.

It's actually Sally's daughter, which makes it less awesome to me because I was reading into it as a more spontaneous shot that was a comment on the sexualization of young girls. But apparently the cue was "world weariness". Maybe I'm just a pervert...

I understand that it's art, and not being sexualized, but I can't imagine someone saying "Yeah honey, pose naked for me okay? Yeah, lean over a bit. Okay, hold it" to their child and not seeing anything wrong with it.

I'm up to the part where you use the iron boots and Zora tunic to enter the Water Temple, and although I re-found princess Ruto, I've been looking for like 2 hours to re-find her after I was meant to "follow" her

It's pretty much impossible for me to see the naked female form in anything but a sexual context. That doesn't mean I want to bang the 13 year olds in the Sally Mann picture, but I can't look at an "artistic nude" and think of it as an abstract expression of beauty and art. I don't know if that makes me a bad person (don't worry about saying yes, I am already pretty sure I am).
