Out of the list, Soundgarden, but my favorite is Jane's Addiction - I'm pretty surprised they haven't been mentioned yet, actually...

Wow ! Soundgarden is really appreciated.
Smashing Pumpkins fan here, a band I consider definitely as prog-related. Mellon Collie is just amazing, just as Adore or Siamese Dream. Just listen to these epics and come back ! Starla (Pisces Iscariot) Thru the eyes of ruby (Mellon Collie...) Porcelina of the vast oceans (Mellon Collie...) XYU (Mellon Collie...) Glass & the ghost children (Machina...) I am really surprised this band is not yet in the archives ! |

Les Claypool has very proggy tendencies (well... he covered Pink Floyd's Animals in its entirety, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and King Crimson's Thela Hun Ginjeet)

I'm tossing up between Alice In Chains and Soundgarden from this list. As much as a proghead I am, I enjoy other kinds of rock and metal as well. The only band from the big four of grunge (AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam) I haven't got into yet is Pearl Jam. I don't dislike 'em, just haven't really heard enough of them to form an opinion yet.
I quite like the Pumpkins, Incubus, and RATM. Audioslave are OK but nothing new, really. Cornell still sounds great as always, though. Still need to hear NIN properly. What album should I check out? Downward Spiral is one I hear good things about. The Chilli Peppers are pretty good. I have one Korn album (Issues) which is not bad. I'm still deciding between AIC and Soundgarden. Both sound a lot like one of my favourite bands (Black Sabbath), have great vocalists (in AIC's case, both Layne Staley and the new guy William DuVall), and guitarists. And the new AIC album is very good, a lot better than I was expecting. I'll go for AIC. But Soundgarden is close behind. Also, is the new Dave Grohl/Josh Homme/John Paul Jones supergroup (Them Crooked Vultures) any good? |

Oooh, good choice. I really admire Jeff Buckley's work as well. He's not prog, but his voice has the same quality as a Thom Yorke, Steve Wilson, or Matt Bellamy.

The Smashing Pumpkins are unfathomably more interesting than anyone else on this list.
