That's only because it has never been performed live perfectly. 

I don't know if there is such a thing as perfect silence. Also, I like Frith's bass playing.

I've been outside at night after a nice snowfall and experienced a perfect silence.  It doesn't work well during the day because of snowblowers and such.  But it beats a summer night which is filled with the sounds of crickets, and mosquitos buzzing in your ears.  First thing in the morning works too, before all of the snowblowers start up.
