I think someone should speak to him. Giving one stars to every single Chicago album with NO EXPLANATION is really annoying, especially when those are the only ratings for most of the albums. -Jeff |

Then don't allow these morons on the site. Simple. You would't believe the negative feedback that I hear about this site for this reason.

Crap, I didn't realize that this great band was added here. I have to review them, I quite a love them. Anyway, this nonsense rating is probably gone by now. Thanks for adding anyway ;-) guess which rating you can see by me, negative, or positive ? |

There's a point where "avant-garde" and "experimental" becomes "terrible" and "pointless,"

Re Chicago ratings manipulations: thanks for the reports guys, I had already seen that.
Yorkie X has been given final warning for ratings manipulation and all ratings have been deleted. Please post here if this happens again. Edited by Easy Money - November 26 2009 at 09:59 |

When I was growing up my oldest brother use to play all the albums I rated constantly I became very familiar with Chicago each album I rated as a prog album (as this is still a prog site isnt it ?) compared to the prog joy albums like Foxtrot, Thick as a brick, Close to the edge give me I`m afraid one star is all Chicago albums are worth if we are talking about prog that is ... I got a warning my first warning on this site so far for a thing called spam ratings? I assure you I wouldn't damage the integrity of myself or this site for a cheap ploy like that .. my rating were just freedom of speech that's all .. but they have since been removed and I respect the wishes of the admins on that call, and apologize for any misunderstanding.

I wouldn't rate or compare that way. It's a different kind of music than those acts. When I judge music, I commonly gauge it against similar music (apples and apples) A suggestion, why not review Chicago Transit Authority and
you can judge how well you think it fits the Jazz-Rock Fusion category
in that review. Couldn't that be a more satisfying way to exercise your freedom of speech by, you know, using words? I don't like the ratings descriptions partially
because different people have different ideas of what Prog can be. To
me it means something like (to use JRF as an example):
Essential: a masterpiece of Fusion (100%)Incidentally, is it just me, or are the bottom two ratings descriptions too similar? Collectors/fans only (0%)
Poor. Only for completionists (0%)
And it's "completists" in my book! It seems likely that you were rating too much on memory too, and the problem is the lack of variation in your ratings. Do you think you could write decent reviews right now of all the albums you rated or is it just based on old vague impressions and biases? Never mind if you consider any of them Prog or not (or fit for the JRF category), though I could understand people not giving 4 or 5 stars to an album they don't think Prog due to the description even if they love it, do you consider them all musically equally bad? I hope you can understand why it would look like abuse to someone and a case of sour grapes, rather than each being a well-reasoned and insightful rating that indicates intimate knowledge of each album. It was so unbalanced, and frankly, it would make me wonder if you were just reacting and treating them all badly out of hand rather than being really familiar with all of the albums you rated. When I see a person rating a whole bunch of albums a one by a band, I usually suspect that that person hasn't even listened to each album let alone given the albums a fair hearing. I'm not much of a reviewer/rater, but I wouldn't want to rate an album based on memory. I'd rather give it fresh spins before deciding on the rating. EDIT: Freedom of speech is important, but the ratings just say much more about you than they do the albums (as they were homogeneous, and it was recently added, it says I don't like this band and I don't want it here). What does it communicate? Why not use that freedom of speech to really express yourself by writing a review? Not that I'm against ratings without reviews, I'm not. Some raters here have been incredibly helpful to me as I know I share similar tastes and so I can trust a rating they give an album. Perhaps some would have found your Chicago ratings to be a useful guide when it comes to which Chicago albums to avoid (all of them), but seeing them all, it doesn't look like you've given them a fair hearing or given thought to how to rate each album on each albums individual merits. Incidentally, I'm not intimating that you're saying that the one star ratings are just about them not being what you consider Prog (it would seem silly to rate an album one just because you didn't think it Prog, and while many don't bother with the Prog rating system but judge based on what they see the music's worth, and at the least it's acceptable to rate a three a non-Prog album in a Prog category), but you rated them that way, one might expect, because they are all bad albums in your opinion. Looking at your ratings, you've given good ratings to albums I wouldn't consider Prog or very Prog (may of those being ones in Related), but there are different ideas of what music can be considered suitable for the prog umbrella. Incidentally, tastes change. If you haven't listened to them much since you were a kid, or maybe you're still a kid, you might want to return to them. Edited by Logan - November 26 2009 at 20:16 |

This really isn't the place, I guess. But where I'm from, the word is completionists.

The word is definately completionist.
Logan, I keep meaning to start a thread asking if people would like the rating descriptions changed, even though it will probably go nowhere in terms of actually changing things, but if you would like to start the thread that would be great too. I'm sure you've been crusading the point longer than I have.

Yep, if someboody is full of anger is Mr. Cadmancan, his review is a disaster, his arguments are simply absurd,....According to him we must admire a band that doesn't aspire to greatness, only because they gave the album for free (If they had charged a buck, wouldn't had sold a copy).
And he dares to insult evrybody.

Prog reviewer Bonnek has recently posted 4 consecutive Can reviews, which I must assume he wrote them in Word some time from now.
As far as I'm concerned, it really isn't permited to post a whole bunch of reviews consecutively which you had already wrote some time from now, since this doesn't let the view of other reviews by reviewers who worked hard in one review and posted it at the same time they finished it.

He definitely didn't write them at the same time, unless he's unhuman and can write in one minute a complete review, if that's the case ignore my post.

Those links aren't working for me, but they're still on the front page and one can find them using his profile. I haven't heard anything about it not being permitted to post a bunch of your reviews in a short time (that people have obviously pre-prepared). I've seen it done a number of times by reviewers. Still, it's not a practice that I really like.
