The review+rating of a collab is weighted higher than the rating only of a non-collab.

Yeah, I'm trying to "review" 2009 releases to make sure my list is what I want it to be.  Right now listening to Part the Second, but I'll spin the new UA next.

Mmm.. Yeah. I might put this into my top 5. So difficult to choose.

I also really need to get my hands on Aranis's new album. Maybe I'll go on a prog-buying spree with that mystery $450. Wink

That's on the Christmas list.  Tongue

I'm confident that #1-3 is Cheer-Accident, Magma, Led Bib.  It's the last two spots that are making me think.

I have only rated three albums for 2009 with five stars...I suspect there will be a forthcoming fourth five star based on the album I mentioned a couple of pages back.

I can see why 2009 is hailed as a great year for prog, but for me personally, it doesn't rank better than most other years.

Sweet. My top 3 are locked in as well. In the same situation with the last 2.

In chronological and (incidentally) preferential order:

The Decemberists- The Hazards of Love
maudlin of the Well- Part the Second
Il Castello di Atlante- Capitolo 7- Tra Le Antiche Mu

The fourth album that has a real shot at collecting five stars from me for 2009 is Pictorial Wand's Face of Our Fathers.

I'm listening to Part the Second now....you liked it that much?  It's great but I don't think I could give it 5.

Also congrats again Daddy.  Now life really gets interesting.  LOL

Lot of girls being born - my wife told me she wants one.  Ermm

Part the Second sounds like a really good idea right now. I'll probably re-download it because I lost the files. LOL

I had no idea what to expect from it, but from the first listen, I was mesmerized- to this day I remember exactly where I was standing when that opening sequence came out of my speakers...I had just had to stand there and take it in...or let it take me in, rather.  As a musician, I cannot help but wonder how they even thought to compose some of the music on that album.

Also congrats again Daddy.  Now life really gets interesting.  LOL

Thanks again, but today was hell.  My new kid is great- she never cries!  My old kid...God help him, because he is acting out and being all kinds of hell.  Heretofore, he's been an insanely well-behaved child.

I, deep down, would love for my son to grow up with a brother.  I myself had two brothers, so perhaps there's a bias there.  I have a sister, but she is very much younger than I.  However, my wife is quite content, and so am I.  Smile

Hey, the new Aranis is on eMusic! That's a relief, I was afraid it was going to be another burden to the 2009 list.

lol

FLAC - 1 hr, 43 mins.
mp3 - 14 mins.

Is it really worth waiting an extra hour and a half just to hear the flac version? I will be using a pair of $20 stereophones from my pc.

I don't have enough credits this month because I burned through all of them in a rage when eMusic reset and lost 15 credits again because it reset on the damn 25th and I keep thinking it's the 30th.

The vocals came out of left field, but the songs on their Myspace are really good. I can't even make a 2009 list, making anything accurate would require me to spend far more than I am willing to in the next month. I've also lost the ability to make a list of things I like. I can't rate one thing as better than another anymore unless I actively dislike it.

I think FLAC is overrated, personally. I've very rarely been able to hear any difference with MP3s.

Me neither, but I wanted to dl just to see. I'm glad I don't suffer from audiophilia.

A long time ago, I read a thread where MikeEnRegalia and oliverstoned were having a debate about audiophiles. oliverstoned was a big believer in the mystical audiophile nonsense like heavily shielded power cords for your turntable, but the reason I still remember this is because when Mike challenged him to do a listening test between a high quality MP3 and the original, he claimed he could hear the difference between a CD and a burned copy of it.

Audiophilia is a sad disease. I wish we had the technology to cure it.

Okay, I love The Hazards of Love...but I've officially decided it does not top The Crane Wife.
