Listening to Godspeed You! Black Emperor right now.  Really good, I'm starting to love Post-Rock.

I'm trying to listen to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, all this talk of The Lamb keeps making me want to just skip the rest of this album. LOL

I have difficulty getting into GYBE, but I'm a big fan of Mogwai's Mr Beast. Even if that is their poppiest album...But Young Team is just boring.

Also, f**k New Prog.

I have Mr. Beast. I like it, but not as much as what I have heard from other post-rock bands.

GY!BE are amazing!

You should check this out... http://www.last.fm/music/No+One+Wished+To+Settle+Here

its a solo post-rock project, heavily influenced by GY!BE. All his recordings are up for free download on his Last.FM page.

That thread finally made me realize what New Prog is: a ploy to sneak Muse out of prog-related! And I won't stand for it.

Are we really adding a New Prog section on PA?  Surely any of the new Progressive Rock bands could be put into a different genre, rather than a genre that includes unrelated bands simply because they are from the same era.

I think it would be more about putting together prog bands that are influenced by new/popular genres.

No, there is no chance of that happening any time in the near future. It is just one of the many things people have been talking about forever that will never happen. Maybe we'll add it the day Max fixes the damn search engine and changes the stupid star rating descriptions.

Yes, the search engine is broken, but I love the star rating descriptions.  They perfectly describe whether or not you should buy this album.

But they also suggest that I can't five star a John Zorn album because I couldn't recommend it to someone who only listens to symph and classic rock. So does "For fans only" mean that it's not very good and only of interest to fans of the artist, or does it mean that it's just really inaccessible?

I recommend John Zorn to me.

I will use the term "new prog" until I can think of a more appropriate terms to use. I usually don't take most genre labels seriously anyway, so it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. And I am all for keeping Muse in PR where they belong. I am glad however that Coheed & Cambria got moved from PR to Xover. Smile

Is Kristallnacht any good, Henry?

New prog = bands who never had any connection to prog but decided to add keyboards or a layer of complexity after 3 albums.

I haven't heard it David, but I think Rico said he likes it. My Zorn collection is actually fairly weak. He just has so many albums...

Thank you stonie, I am going to quote you in the other thread for super honesty.

...the hell?

First of all, I guess it's just a made-up category anyway so its definition is never the same.

Exactly. Which is why I use the term lightly anyway, or not at all. I'm just messing with you anyway, Stonie. Wink

Henry, if Rico likes it, that means there's a 75% chance I'm bound to hate it with a passion. :P But I think I'll go ahead and get it to give it a try. I like the other Zorn albums I've heard so far as well as Naked City.
