Don't make me want to hear Kraftwerk; I want to finish this album first. Tongue

That song makes me so sleepy.

There. If he would believe in Hell, Alex would now tell me to go there. Wink

Ehhhhh, it's made up by the fact that you love Tangerine Dream and some other good things. Hug

Do you genuinely hate all Phideaux, or just the obvious N7?

Number 7 is the only one I've heard, and I couldn't stand it.

Doomsday Afternoon.
No strong prog shenanigans (well, from your viewpoint).

If you can't bear the thought of buying anymore Phideaux, only to be dissapointed of it, PM mich for a trial copy.

(or trial it yourself, I guess Wink)

I definitely won't pay for it, so go ahead and give me a trial. Hopefully it'll be better than Number 7; I won't be enthusiastic to hear it so I may not hear it for a while. LOL

Number 7 was a fantastic album in my opinion, but it is definately a grower.

I reviewed Doomsday Afternoon and gave it a five.  It is to date only one of two Crossover albums to receive that mark.

Chupacabras is a solid four star album.

Number Seven is not as good as these, but not bad.

Read my review if you want to know what I really thought of it. Wink

I've really grown away from music that tries too hard to sound progressive or replicate something that has already been done, and that album is easily the one I've heard the most guilty of that ever. IMO, true progressive music doesn't try to match anything that's been done before; it naturally develops.

I figured as much. I love how their songs are so accurate at representing the intended topic though. That's something I always try to aim for in my compositions.

What's the other Xover album to get 5 stars?

I agree, "Neon Lights" makes me think of something like this:

There would be a third album in Crossover to get five stars if Steve Walsh hadn't included crappy "early 90s sounding" songs on Glossolalia.

I haven't given any album in Crossover 5 stars. Except Amarok, which ironically is extremely eclectic.

Wonder if the Riverside guys are into Final Fantasy. The opening to Rainbow Box before the distorted guitar comes in sounds like it could be straight from FFVII. Especially that one piano chord is very Uematsu.

Given that the only strong alternative is Three Sides Live, I guess I'll have to agree.
