The Rite of Spring is still the only thing I've ever heard by him but it's absolutely fantastic.

Even though it's a double album, I think Live in Greenwich Village is the best to start with. It has a trombone and cello in addition and Albert and Don, so the deranged marching band sound that I love so much is stronger, and the textural and thematic diversity is much greater than Spiritual Unity, and there's no repeats. I have to confess, I haven't gotten around to his other albums because they're all live recordings with interlocking set lists, and I do not like having more than one verson of the same song, even though I'm sure the middle improvisation sections are very different, so I'm sort of paralyzed.

But all of Live in Greenwich Village is on last.fm, and I wonder if that's really authorized, but it'll be easy for you to see if you'd like it.

While on Albert Ayler, I also don't think that Pharoah Sanders approved the streaming of all of Karma, either.

Actually, if you've ever been to/ listened to a Yes concert, you've most likely heard his other most famous work, "The Firebird Suite." (That's probably one of my favorite compositions of all time.)

This is probably the only time I'll ever be asked for music to listen to by an RIO fan, but here are some other ones I enjoy are "Appalachian Spring" by Aaron Copland, "Also Sprach Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss, "Otello" by Giuseppe Verdi, and "The Four Seasons" by Antonio Vivaldi

I downloaded the Sun Ra album on eMusic that was described as his most inaccessible, but I haven't listened to it yet. I think I started but the big band craziness didn't work for me. I should probably be looking for his best rather than his craziest. :P

I've heard embarassingly little Stravinsky. I keep meaning to get the complete set of his work conducted by him (it's about $35 on amazon!) but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I love Vivaldi.

Apparently, PoS's Linoleum EP was released on the 16th in Europe and tomorrow here. I need to order it (probably off Inside Out's website). I think I'll actually not download it. I want to hear it without previous listens. It took me awhile to like Scarsick as much as I do, and that's probably partially because I downloaded it without waiting.

Also, I really want the Japanese edition of The Perfect Element I, but it's discontinued and expensive as balls. Cry

Also, new Massive Attack in February, but Heligoland is a far crappier title than The Weather Underground. Thumbs Down

I haven't been the same since I realized the beauty in Henry Cow's music. Symphonic Prog has been boring by comparison ever since.
