Gandalf was such a lovable character, no wonder Camel wrote a song about him.

Sad they didn't write a piece about Magneto...but note that I'm asking about Ian McKellen's performances as the characters.

I know that, but that is the thing, his performance gave life to that character.

I'm kind of partial to Ian as Anderson, but I had to go with Ian Gandalf.

Am I the only one who thought this was going to be about the shoelace guy?

How could people make that mistake? The title doesn't say "Dumb Ian or Ugly Ian." |

I thought we were comparing Ian Anderson to Ian Macdonald, or something. Anyways, I pick Gandalf.

Before I found Ian's site I used to tie my shoelaces with a granny knot. Now that I've learned the proper two loop shoelace knot, my life has greatly improved. I don't need to worry about my shoelaces coming undone when I talk to a group of attractive & relatively wealthy red-haired pianists. Thank you, Ian, for making my life almost worth living!

Is this the proper way to tie shoelaces?! I learned that early on then was converted to the loop, swoop and pull method because apparently the bunny ears weren't sophisticated enough. Damn you peer pressure. As for the poll I voted Gandalf. Gandalf is cool. While Magneto is also cool, he has the unfortunate luck to work opposite of Patrick Stewart who makes everyone look like the least cool person by comparison. |

There are plenty of "proper" ways to tie shoelaces, the Ian Knot (allegedly) being the fastest. I voted Gandalf too. |
