I thought we were comparing Ian Anderson to Ian Macdonald, or something. Anyways, I pick Gandalf.

Before I found http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/index.htm - Ian 's site I used to tie my shoelaces with a http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/slipping.htm - granny knot . Now that I've learned the proper http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/twoloopknot.htm - two loop shoelace knot , my life has greatly improved. I don't need to worry about my shoelaces coming undone when I talk to a group of attractive & relatively wealthy red-haired pianists. Thank you, Ian, for making my life almost worth living!

Is this the proper way to tie shoelaces?! I learned that early on then was converted to the loop, swoop and pull method because apparently the bunny ears weren't sophisticated enough. Damn you peer pressure.
As for the poll I voted Gandalf. Gandalf is cool. While Magneto is also cool, he has the unfortunate luck to work opposite of Patrick Stewart who makes everyone look like the least cool person by comparison.

There are plenty of "proper" ways to tie shoelaces, the http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/ianknot.htm - Ian Knot (allegedly) being the fastest.
I voted Gandalf too.

Trust Vompatti to derail a thread about a phenomenal actor and turn it into a thread about tying your friggin shoes.

I wouldn't say it was derailed so much as diverted a little - and I learnt something which is also a bonus - I was taught the bunny-eared method because it is supposed to be simpler for dyslexics, but I couldn't manage that either - the Ian-knot looks do-able - unfortunately I haven't owned a pair of shoes with laces for many years so I have nothing to try it out on.
Anyway
I voted Good Ian because Byrnison Ian wasn't an option.

I voted for Magneto because this shouldn't be so one-sided.

I voted for Gandalf because I liked his performance in LotR and the story of LotR and the movie versions of LotR more than any of the respective things in X-Men. Though both series were good, the X-Men movies don't stand up to the LotR series IMO.

I really though this was about Vibrationbaby, who's known to switch from good to bad in a second...

Hmmm, tactical redressing the balance against the fan-boys voting? ... you may be on to something there.

Frankly, while McKellen seems to be a great actor, his performance as Magneto didn't strike me. But it's just because the 'X-Men' movies bore me. Ian isn't at his best in these movies.
