For curiosity I started listening thru imeem.com Magma's modern album. It is pretty bizarre music, but despite a few sections which came close to grating to my ears, it has excellent songwriting in it.

The first 8-9 minutes of K.A. pt3 are incredibly beautiful.

I might be interested in this new album if given good reviews.

It seems like I had the correct cover for the album; Amazon presales has the same one:

http://www.amazon.fr/Emehntehtt-R%C3%AA-Magma/dp/B002PNFJGK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1254497520&sr=1-10

I like this one a lot even if it doesn't have the Magma logo on it.

I like it too, and I think it's better than the other one posted in this thread, which looks very amateur too me with its ugly faux-light Confused

This was posted by Steve Feigenbaum at the avant-progressive yahoo group:

Stella just sent me this press release/hype sheet to help with the
promotion. So, here it is verbatim:

best rgds

Steve

------------

Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré

At the doors of immortality, dreams the Great Servant of Ptah, God
of creation drifting
infinitely within his own mind, as he tries to awaken Him.

In its message, as in its genesis and its making, Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré
is an intimate epic, an occult stride forward, a quest for the sublime.

Initiated in 1975, its composition beholds its whole fulfillment
after more than
three decades. It is the testimony of an unwaveringly timeless
inspiration, of which the
expectant present asserts itself beyond history. Connecting wide and
contrasted scenes,
it sets its coherence within its very dynamics, playing with
chiaroscuro , between choral
splendor, operatic jubilation and hurricane of spirits beyond graves.

As much a seraphic liturgy as it is a telluric opera, Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré
comes as the final
closure to a second trilogy, following upon that of Theusz Hamtaahk,
in Christian
Vander’s corpus. This is a music reaching out from a time before man
time. Born at the
heart of nebulas, fed on mineral glow, and riding crypts capped with
a cosmic vault.

Bruno Heuzé Translation : Mary-
Noelle Dana

This record comes with a 57-minute DVD, "PHASES", as a testimonial
to the intensity of our work during its recording

Stella Vander vocals, percussions
Isabelle Feuillebois vocals
Hervé Aknin vocals
Benoît Alziary vibraphone
James Mac Gaw guitare
Bruno Ruder Fender Rhodes
Philippe Bussonnet bass, piccolo bass
Christian Vander drums, vocals , piano, Fender Rhodes,
keybords, percussions

also featuring : Emmanuel Borghi : piano - Himiko Paganotti,
Antoine Paganotti , Claude Lamamy,
Marcus Linon, Pierre-Michel Sivadier : backing vocals

international release: November 5.

The old works fit in seemlessly because they were originally intended to be part of emehnteht re. It has dark moments, but I also think it is the most spiritual piece Magma has ever done. The last 20 mins is all newly composed material. Based on the several live performances i've heard, it is one of the best they have done.

It's getting closer to release... Where would a citizen of the USA pick one up? Amazon still doesn't have it.

Good lord. I hope there are cheaper version available somewhere. I spent months carefully waiting and checking to get their other albums at reasonable prices. I still don't even have their debut. Here's to hoping it becomes more affordable than $20, not this 30+ before shipping...

I've actually read that the DVD is not all that great. But I guess that's opinion anyway, but it was described as being a chronicle of the recording sessions of the second half of the album. If that's the majority of the DVD, then it's not really that interesting.

At the same time, I have not yet bought anything Magma related, so I definitely owe it to them to at least buy THIS album.

There are short extracts of E-Re Pts. 1-3 on the band's myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/magmaofficial

(Short means 1.5-2.5 minutes)
