For guys with girlfiends/spouses (ex-girlfriends or wives o.k.):
Does your companion share the same interests in progressive music as yourself?

For you single fellas (that have been so for quite some time):
Go out and find one and then come back and participate.

And for the ladies:
Tells us what you find appealing about prog and any bands you enjoy.

"Thinks "Progressive" is in reference to a soup"lol expect to get flamed for that.I can only go based on my ex and that's she liked bands from it but probably didn't even know there was a genre called prog rock.

I'm a number 2 - Although I already have a possible lined up who listens to The Mars Volta, Blackfield and Radiohead.

I voted for "Only likes certain bands of the genre"

She's a big fan. We always go to prog concerts together and she's bought most of our obscure Italian prog for example. I just got her some Zappa and Devil Doll for birthday along with PJ Harvey and Alice in Chains, so it's not just prog that we share, we like all the same music with tiny exceptions like 80s pop which she largely ignores.

My ex's favorite band is Porcupine Tree, but that was as close to prog as she got. She also liked some Sigur Ros and melodic Opeth.

Liked certain bands, but she (my ex) was a bit of a poser and probably just liked what I and my friends liked.

My wife has no special liking or disliking for prog. She usually likes Over the Rhine or some worship music, but now and then I can put on some Pink Floyd or Yes in her presence.
I think she can hardly tell prog from non-prog because she has less with music than I have.

Well my wife enjoys an act like Porcupine Tree but curiously enough I can´t get her to appreciate Dødheimsgard: http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=2539Wink. So I voted number 2.

I did not know if I'm aloud to vote but after I saw that exs count I voted for option 2.
She loves PF, can hear Peter Hamill, Comus, KC (but not for long) but hates Renaissance.
Nah, It wasn't the music.

My GF loves all the prog she's been exposed to by me. And yes that includes Magma, Univers Zero, The Mars Volta etc. Big smile

My wife gets the hang of Neal Morse, whose voice is, according to her, similar to her favorite singer Jon Bon Jovi. Dead
Yesterday she came to the CD shelf and took Phideaux's Doomsday Afternoon to play in the car. I guess she got that one too.

My gf likes mostly crossover, dredg, The Dear Hunter, 3..She also enjoys Sigur Ros's latest album as well. That's pretty much it though, I think.

Ooh - I forgot - after seeing the film of 90125 Live, my wife formed the opinion that Jon Anderson is a tart

My lady's fussy about music in general these days. She's grown out of most of the indie/alt bands she loved as a teenager and hasn't found much to pique her interest since. She's caught the Cardiacs bug almost as much as I have, mind you.

Interesting. I can't imagine how enjoyable it would be to have a girlfriend or wife that's interested in Univers Zero. It is to my understanding (and for many years), that Europe is populated with guys and girls who take progressive rock seriously. This is the old as hat analogy about the difference in cultures with European countries and the U.S.A. But since I've never been to Europe, I naturally feel drawn to an environment where it's possible to meet a girl who puts on a Univers Zero cd after lunch.

My wife and I have always shared the same passion towards music and we have a similar taste in music and we love the same bands/musicians and she loves many of the bands I play and/or introduce to her and vice versa (rock, metal, classical, jazz, electronic, avantgarde etc.).
We go to shows together (went to Porcupine Tree, Time of Orchids, Renaissance, Van Der Graaf...).

I consider it a special thing that my girlfriend enjoys some of the same music as me. Not that she'll listen to King Crimson or Gentle Giant or Meshuggah, but she likes The Beatles, some Porcupine Tree, and most Peter Gabriel, to name a few.

Now if only she could get into Death's Symbolic with me, then we'd really be in business Tongue

You got it.  Generally though, if I tell girls what kind of music I listen to and say that I absolutely dislike rap, country, pop, etc. they get upset. Tongue  It's even worse if I play them some.
