Well, that is not true. You are writing about them so they must exist for you. ;)
I don't think it's their best record but it's not their worst. It's a good alternative record. My "big problem" with the record is their blatant ripp o... homage. Every time I get to those parts it makes me lose interest... But I just made a CD without Great Expectations and Time Flies so that should solve my "problem". :)

I can't stand PT so this new album is total disaster. I was just listen to see how Wilson become more and more an alternative MTV dude. |
You can't be serious about this. Quite sure the last thing he wants is to be part of the "in" crowd with MTV and all of the "urban" crap or they play on there. Haven't seen MTV in a while but quite sure it is full of Brittney and more of her ilk playing their poppy 3-minute tunes. He just made an album long song of 55 some minutes - hardly the stuff of MTV. Everyone needs to step back and take a little breather with this album. All kinds of silly conclusions being drawn. I for one welcome the new direction and hope he continues to stir things up with his music.

I'm liking it a bit more on repeat listens. Still edging up the 3 towards 4 rating. More than just good for sure. Whether it hits "excellent" we'll see.
I like Drawing the Line especially as a foil to the slower stuff.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Great expectations has a rip... I mean, a homage to King Crimson's Red.
But the album it's slowly growing...

^Out of concept songs that they wanted to release any way. Wilson compared the first disc to a novel and the second as a bunch of separate short stories.

What I first notice on the new PT is how they marry Opeth with post rock and minimalism. And of course the usual dose of space rock. They even simulate growling in parts but thankfully it remains at that.
I wasn't happy with the long song format on FOABP. This new one uses an even longer song concept but at the same time they are doing what they are best at: the short songs, here obviously linked nicely together.
But what's the purpose of disc 2? totally out of concept IMO.

I haven't even listened to disc 2 much. I've been so into Disc One that I've mostly ignored it. I'll have to give it another spin. I remember enjoying Bonnie The Cat though.
Same thing happens to me a lot with double albums. I find I enjoy one of the discs so much, I forget to even check out the other one properly, for ages. Happened to me with Led Zep's Physical Graffiti. Loved disc 1 so much, poor disc 2 barely got a look in, at first.

This album is growing on me. I liked it the first listen, but after the fourth or fifth listen, it is closer to a 4 star album than the 3 I would have initially given it. Still not to sure about disc 2.

Am I the only guy who likes Drawing The Line? I like the title track a lot as well.
In fact, the second half of disc one, everything from Yellow Windows... up to I Drive The Hearse is bloody brilliant, IMO. |
The second half of the cd is better with the exception of "Drawing the Line". For the moment, I think it is my least favorite PT song. Some of the other songs are starting to grow on me a little bit though.

What? What? "Drawing the Line" is excellent! Beautiful melodic verse and extremely cool chorus!
|
I agree that the verse is a very beautiful melody, but it is ruined by a pathetic and insipid chorus in my opinion.

It's deffintely a grower, I thought it pretty average at first but I'm liking it better and better with each play. That's why I'll always live with an album at least a week before reviewing it.

Never had an album growing on you before? I'd say it's a common occurrence especially with prog. Pretty much all prog albums I've ever heard have done that. |
all the time. that's why i just assume something's wrong with me. LOL.
