I can see you're from Québec! Smile Yeah, I agree with what you said. I'm now trying to add June Wallack to this site. Offenbach, I think it's already here (it must!). Robert Charlebois has some prog elements but he had different eras where he made different music.
Aren't you the one who posted Octobre's L'oiseau Rouge and Charlebois' Québec Love or Tout écartillé (I don't remember) on YouTube? Tongue And I'm not sure if you knew but Raoûl Duguay also participated to Maneige's Les porche. Bienvenue sur le site!

Yes I'm the one, for Octobre and Maneige's videos. Good luck about June Wallack, and also Offenbach because they aren't in Prog Archives !

Michel.

Offenbach? Not here!? Shocked It's a crime Tongue I'll have to suggest it. I don't think I'll have problems with Wallack.
Gab

Jude Wallack.... are you ready to write her bio??? I will open the artiste entry page with your bio of her andthen you can add her album(s)

Offenbach is trickier .... we already had a hard time convincing with Octobre, soooooo you can imagine that Offenbach will be tougher, despite their first two albums..... We'll ask for prog related soopn

Beau Dommage, we've done the demand for prog-related, but let"s face it, outside Bois Filion, there isn't much prog

LOL Yeah, for Beau Dommage, I agree. For Offenbach, I understand.
For June Wallack: I'm now working on Medeski, Martin & Wood's (Jazz-Rock/Fusion) bio, but soon as I'm finished with this one, I'll start Wallack's. Is it good? Smile

Sean, I've think about it; I re-listened some Beau Dommage. They HAVE something to do here. At least, their album "Où est passée la noce?" is Prog (or Prog-Related).
Gabriel,

if you read what I said, the BD demand for Prog'related has been made. Bois Filion is the 20 minutes "epic" of Ou Est Passé La Noce

As for Rodier, I will relisten, but from memory, he's not that prog....

I can' remember if I've responded to this but I'm from Montréal and we used to have a great music scene here.

Octobre was my favourite and if Pierre Flynn would have given in to CBS Records and sang in English they could have gone far even though prog was on the wane back when the y recorded their first album for CBS ( L' autoroute Des Reves the other one was the excellent Cants Dans La Nuit live album. I think they've only played in two places outside of Québec, the provinces Of New Bruswick and Ontario. They might have performed in France but I can't recall for sure.

When I was doing research for their bio here it was difficult to find much about them in English. Almost no mention in any of the Canadian Rock history books. So I had to dig up newspaper clippings ( interviews articles reviews etc. ) from French language newspapers that I found on micro film in a couple of libraries.

One of Québecs unsung music legends. I'd definitetey like to see a reunion but Pierre Flynn has said that the last one in July '89 was definitely the last. He currently lives in Hull and still performs and records but nothing that sounds like pog.

^  You didn't respond before now. Except Octobre, whant bands did you like?
I think Octobre made a good decision to sing in french.

Pierre wasn,t really a hard line separatist but he was a separatist nonetheless who had and still has a passion for his French Canadian roots ( the name of the band was actually derived from the 1970 October Crises in 1970 ) . While it may have not been artistic suicide it was commercial suicide especially after signing on with  a heavy hitting American record label such as CBS. ( He actually has a few solo songs in English, actually ) . Many Québec artists who started singing in French came to realisation that if they were to make it commercially on a world scale ( Céline Dion is a glaring example, even Corbeau sang some songs in Anglais ) If they didn,t then they would make it onl ylocally and if they were lucky maybe France. Many European bands sang n English and theie native tongues, Look at Omega, Hungarian, Enlish and German.

Don't  get me wrong Flynn is a very articulate a intelligent man, just maybe a little too proud when he was younger. As for Québec bands and musicians from Québec here is a pattial list of the ones that come to mind both past and present :

Voivod, Frank Marino, Jimmy James, Guy, Nadon ( just saw him and spoke with hime at the jazzfest this year ) , Walter Rossi, Oscar Peterson, Corbeau, April Wine,

Never could get into Beau Dommage, Maniege or Harmonium ( who were based in California for a whie ).

Something funny here, you're the first to cite Voivod. I think some of their albums are good, but they do have some average ones too.

Octobre had awesome moments, Survivance is excellent and deserves a reissue, I also like l'Autoroute des Rêves which is often overlooked, it has really nice melodies and great arrangements. Chants dans la Nuit also gives us a testimony of their talent outside the studio, I was surprised when i listened to this the first time i wasnt expecting as great a performance, and with some of their more prog oriented material too even though this was in 1978 and they were moving towards the end with a more conventional sounding "Clandestins"

BTW they did play in France in 1979 but never got distribution there.

On another note i'd like to mention Offenbach, maybe not their career but to highlight the quebecprog release of "Saint-Chrone-de-Néant" the live performance at the Oratoire st-Joseph where the band performed a mass. Offenbach definately showing us their prog side in the musical arrangement here..

Their earlier material is the best. Killing Technology, Nothing Face. I forgot to mention Spaced Out. Totally off the wall killer fusion. I`ve got all their albums. Saw them once a few years back.

Unfortunately I think the only Octobre disc that`s ever going to be available is the Anthology `72 - `89. Fortunately it`s got all the best material. I think only Autoroute des reves and the live Chants dans la nuit album were the only two Octobre albums released on CD.

Re : Octobre ... I think the second records shops (what few remain) would have a copy or two of their albums. I'm sure I've seen L' Autoroute des Reves & the live one.
As for Offenbach - the hard part for those of us here who know the band is that the early albums, the ones that seem to serve as the basis for their candidacy ,are almost impossible to get. The owner of Room 201, a now closed record shop, had Bulldozer & Soap Opera. And I did see the Mass LP once years ago.

^ Let's hope ProgQuébec will reissue Octobre's albums soon.

I think I have have something IMPORTANT to mention.
Some solo albums by Québecois artists are listed in the bands that they were in before. Roger Waters' solo albums, aren't in Pink Floyd. Those artists deserve a full page for them, citing them in their band's page is an error, it's not the same, and they're not making the same music. For exemple, Jacques Blais and Yves Laferrière in Contraction or Charles Kaczynski.
+

Addition of Pierre Nadeau, the singer of Ville Émard Blues Band, please. He released a great symphonic album, Extra-ordinaire.

Their first three Offenbach albums are enough to warrant a prog-related, but the rule is that we must enter full discographies

I doubt it, because the double disc compilation covers most of the early albums (I mean only one or two tracks missing) and L'Autoroutes des Rêves has received a Cd reissue already.

While I can't say for sure, but I think Octobre is low priority for ProgQuebec; since potential sales are dimished by those that already have what's available

these solo albums' inclusion are my doingEmbarrassed and usually concerns one-shots solo career and have in all cases Contraction members in them. In sorts I am doing ProgQuebec a favor by including these albums that are not really all that prog.

I guess wecould separate Kaczynski, now that he has a second album out. >> I had done the same for Langlois of Maneige, but had to separate them since he's started releasing new albums.

Okay, now that I know the reason, it seems correct the way it is. What about Pierre Nadeau? Ivan said it wasn't o.k. for Symphonic, but maybe suggested Related.

all the early LP's are now available through ProgQuébec except for Tabarnac the double album soundtrack they made for the documentary of the same name which was filmed in France

based on that rule then lots of the bands in the prog archives shouldnt have their discographies added, i dont know of many bands that solely did prog.. even almighty Yes. But for sure for Offenbach its more about their first lps, I guess they were as prog as Deep Purple were at the time.

got Tabarnac years ago on LP. Put it on CD, and traded it at Spin-It. It disappeared pretty quick there.
But from the comments made by that guy at Room 201 , I don't think I'd bother buying those first albums.

I have Bulldozer and Saint-Chrône-de-Néant in cd, they're excellent.
In my opinion the most original work Offenbach did was the first 4 LP's, essentialy the period Hamel was there.

I've had albums by Harmonium (all 3 studio), Maneige (first 3 studio), Pollen, Tom Rivest, Opus 5 (first), Et Cetera and Sloche (first) for a while now, as well as several Miriodor albums.  I've always really liked them, especially Pollen/Rivest, Opus 5, and Sloche.  When Tsevir posted the RPQ poll, I began to realize just how deep the Quebec scene runs.  Wow!  Inspired by the poll, I bought the compilation L'Ultime Rock Progressif du Quebec and love what I'm hearing!  I'm shortly going to get more of these wonderful bands.

I feel like a complete RPQ novice, much like I did when I first discovered the vast prog treasure trove in Italy.  So I'm excited to jump into this, and I appreciate all the comments and recommendations thus far.  I think I'll tackle the Prog Quebec titles first (Morse Code, Conventum, Contraction, Kaczynski, Sloche), along with Rouge Ciel.  I just ordered a used copy of the October compilation (all my usual resources say they are having a hard time getting that).  Any other thoughts for a RPQ newbie?  Big smile  Merci!
