by the way, does anybody match the sheer sadness/melancholy and dreary yet beautiful mastery that is Gregor Samsa? definitely recommended for fans of the truly tragic music....

there are a few shoegaze bands that might compare (to Gregor Samsa); Slowdive comes to mind as a melancholic, dreamy relative.... as do My Bloody Valentine. the band Idaho is great. Codeine is fairly dreary in a beautiful, heavier way. Slint had their moments too. I love the latter Slint (spiderland) material, where the lyrics became more monologuish and prose-like.... telling a story over shifting, mathy riffs that ebb and flow in a hypnotic wash....

Gregor Samsa's Rest is a gorgeous record. You can just melt away to that one. 55:12 is great too.

From the sounds of it, I think I'll be liking their earlier stuff more.

Gregor Samsa is awesome. The vocals really tip the thing from good to holy f**k for me.

I'm not to keen on the vocals really. Too... droney, no flavour. The instrumentation is brilliant though.

^Give them some time, it took me awhile to get into the vocals too. Like I said the the opening track on Rest "The Adolescant" is f*ckin excellent.! try starting there.

If this is true, I'll have to get on checking this out as well. The guitarist in my band is really into Idaho and Codiene (and similarly Red House Painters and Early Day Miners).

shoegaze.... respectable, but not quite vulgar enough for me
Hey guys, didn't Robert Fripp basically invent shoegaze with his self proclaimed "Frippertronics" |

I've been getting back some more straight forward metal. Tool, Meshuggah for the most part. Any good new post rock?

They definitly should be here already. The new 2009 album(s) are full of great material, and not just post-rock, but actual prog reminiscent of Pink Floyd and King Crimson.

Excellent band, and super nice guys (see my post a couple pages back about playing a show with them)... actually the singer wasn't all that nice but I had some beers with the dude from Electric Wizard and the girl who plays cello.
But aside from that, yes they are tight live and sound a lot (sometimes too much) like Pink Floyd, but there's definitely lots of good prog influence. "Burnt Reynolds" is like my jam of the year. That song just rules.
However, we did jokingly refer to them as Shriveled Black Penis
