Fair enough, but I've seen them lumped in with that scene. There's also the fact that Earth, the band that inspired them and with which they've collaborated, are on the archives under the post-metal classification.
I'll be investigating Cult of Luna at some point. Heard a couple of Agalloch songs a while ago, only liked the Sol Invictus cover song but maybe I'll change my mind after some more listens.

Cult of Luna are worth investigating, belive me, so is Agalloch .. Kneel to the cross is fantastic.. try Mantle ..hell of a record .. and Pale Folklore is stunning piece .. everything from Agalloch is one of kind..no band like Agalloch you will find elsewhere..

Hmmm. I'll get around to acquiring Pale Folklore then, and maybe also The Mantle but I get the impression from reviews that I'll like that one less. Isn't Ashes against the Grain extremely different from their previous albums?
By the way: The funny thing is that I actually asked for which post-rock/post-metal bands to avoid if I like Pelican but not Isis. Maybe I should just go for the trial-and-error approach? It's not like I can't check stuff out in advance...

Ashes against the grain is slightly different from other albums..less black metal..less folkish elements..but still good.. and here i guess we think first what to suggest to listen , not what NOT to listen..after a while listening post metal or anything else you by yourself will find what you like and what you don't like .. i will suggest Capricorns -excellent instrumental post metal, similar to Long Distance Calling , and other thing is it is very subjective opinion to say to you what to avoid, for ex. i would say not to listen Tarentel ,Coptic light , Hammock, just becouse i don't like lo-fi , slow as hell music .. but other member could say the opposite.. so you will be confused till that point you hear loads of bands and decide what you like ..
Yeah, I cant really tell you what to avoid cause another member could just contradict that.
Every Agalloch album is considerably different from then last. Ashes against the Grain excellent! Just as good as The Mantle IMO. You cant go wrong with that group.

i've listened new Indukti - Idmen, i'am not impressed at all, i've been waiting for this album long time and i got an average record, S.U.S.A.R was better by miles .. few good songs Tusan homichi tuvota, Ninth wave, ...And who's the God now?!.. album in general is not that bad ..still worth listening

I still feel that Tusan Homichi is the single most beautiful thing i've heard this year. (well, maybe besides "Fleets..." by These Monsters)

If you don't like Isis then you probably won't be too fond of Ashes Against The Grain. It sounds a lot like a black/folk metal version version of Isis's Panopticon IMO. It has the same drumming style and similar song structures and production.

Am I the only one here who isnt very impressed with Intronaut? I thought prehistoricism was pretty bland... And I absolutely hated that fretless bass! I'm not sure why, but I couldnt help but be overly annoyed by it.
