Well half and half. I love the show though. Some of the best comedy writing on the planet.

Stargate SG-1: it has a neat premise but it goes on too long and often doesn't make sense. :P

Lost. Complex writing, beautifully developed characters and wonderful use of flashbacks. Difficult to digest after a viewing or two but gripping as hell after multiple viewings |

If CSI: Miami is prog, than I guess the dialogue is a cheesy keyboard solo that lasts for 45 minutes

Anything where the cinematography takes command of the overall feel of the show. Something where the tools involved are used as more than just tools. The writing doesn't have to make sense and often is overly complicated (Yes or Mars Volta) - but I think in this case it would be a show for people who make shows (like prog is music for people who make music, 9 times out of 10, or have a fetish for the art and technique that goes into it)
So... none of these. ![]() |

^ Good post... so... let's equate our favourite directors with different prog genres!
![]() Tarkovsky: electronic prog (very poetic, very linear), sometimes symphonic a la Camel, sometimes experimental and or post-rock. Fellini: RPI, no question about it. Bergman: eclectic a la King Crimson Lynch: psychedelic Almodovar: RPI, Crossover Kubrick: Eclectic, sometimes Prog-Folk ![]() |

Battlestar Galactica (ONLY the new series) is the most sophisticated and thoughfully crafted TV I've ever seen, so that takes my vote.
Although, if The Sopranos were on the list, that would get mine hands down... |

I thought most japanese animation was childish , but this series changed my mind: Thought provoking , epic and no one knows about it = prog.

From the fact that CSI received ZERO vote here, I think the PA community seems hostile towards popularity. I mean, Lost and X-Files are also popular of course, but CSI was the most viewed drama for many years. Just because prog is not popular, doesn't mean anything that is popular must not be prog. Well, the 60's French TV show 'Les Compagnons de Baphomet' ('Baphomet's Companions') has a disquieting background, just like 'Belphegor' and, let's say it, a lot of Zeuhl bands. But I wonder if the Klingons and the Goa-uld would understand Kobaïan? After all, some episodes of Star Trek: TNG could have an OST by Magma. Makes me remember about the aborted version of Dune by Jodorowsky: he thought about Pink Floyd and Magma to make the music. Anyway, I think House could be R.I.O.: this character knows how to nag people, just like the whole movement (in case someone misses it, I LOVE R.I.O., allright?) |

Lost makes me think of a band taking influences from sympho-prog, prog-electronic, a bit of R.I.O.... and getting lost on stage because of too many solos and everyone improvising at the same time. A good thing at the start, but I'm not sure the writers really know where to go and how to go. By the way, I agree with the description of CSI:Miami as "a cheesy 45 minutes keyboard solo". That show is not really good. Plus, it's happening in Miami. Very bad. I said. |

I find Ren and Stimpy rather progressive as well for some odd reason. And, yes, I remember that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where they mentioned King Crimson. My friend called me up right away: King Crimson! They mentioned King Crimson on TV! |
