1. rock''n'roll type guitar player (who cares if I'm pro then?) 2. Unfortunately no, I have composed a lot of things - but everytime I hook up with a potential band either they suck or don't like my music 3. Guitarzz & n00b harmonica 4. Sax, violin, better harmonica 5. Yeah I often add prog elements into my compositions Equpiment details: I use an Epiphone Alpin White Flying V (saving money for a new guitar though - I don't know which one yet). For amplification I used to use a Vox Valvetronix 15w... but I moved to use a real old crunched Vintage Yamaha Hundred410 G, 250w amp and then hooked it up with my pedals. For drive I use a T-Rex Mudhoney, a Ibanez fuzz and as go for wah a cheap Behringer HellBabe. I've also got a cheap western guitar just 'cause I didn't have any money and I needed some acoustic. And then I play a M. Hohner marine band blues harmonica. Edited by Yde - July 03 2009 at 08:54 |

- I think I am an t-home-messing-'round-in-my-spare-time player, though I am in a band, but that's just for fun. - I would love to record my own compositions, but the thing is that I seem to be unable to finish something, I guess it requires the patience I don't have. - I play guitar for about two years, both acoustic and electric. Solo guitar attracts me much more than rythm guitar. - I would love to play the Violin, but it requires the time I don't have and I now it's incredibly hard to play, 16 years old might be a bit too late for it. - I mostly play prog, as it's my favourite music style. In my band we cover songs, from indie to prog.

Are you a professional musician, semi-pro, wanna-be pro, or an at-home-messing-'round-in-my-spare-time player ? I would call myself semi-pro, as I haven't really recorded an album yet lol
Have you recorded your own compositions ? Got samples online ? I have recorded them, and they are somewhere around the web. What instrument(s) do you play ? Guitar, Bass, Drums, Keybaords, about to learn the flute, mandolin. What instrument(s) do you wish you could play ? Flute, Saxophone, Violin, alot of brass instruments Do you play Prog or another type ? I started a prog folk band with my friend. We aren't exactly prog folk, but we plan on having a Tarkus-esque album, with 5 folk songs and one 20-minute prog masterpiece |

Bass, computer and started the dulcimer.
I consider having drums the day I would live in a house and not in a sh*tty flat in the awful town of Paris. Once, made an unreleased two-tracks demo with a thrash-metal band. Also recorded a few dark-ambient / industrial tunes that I should have put on Last.fm if I wasn't maniacal-depressive. Just started to write a couple of jazz-metal songs. |

I play the piano. And the kalimba. If that counts to anything. Not much to play there.
Yes, I gravitate towards prog. But I also play a lot of classical music and I have free'ish improvisations often enough. They end up sounding like the modulations of Keith Emerson + modal jazz + impressionistic piano music. Although, don't get me wrong, I'm not boasting. I'm not as good as that at all. They just sound like that a bit. |

I'm a musictherapy student and I play (mainly) steelstring guitar, electric guitar, bassguitar, drums, piano and some other percussive instrumetns. I still want to play '70 senthisizors like the moog, mellotron (who wouldn't?) and organ. My main instrument is the guitar
I'm currently in a rock band with Dutch hiphop vocals. I write the material and the vocalist writes the lyrics. The songs are about social themes and current happenings. I once had a progressive band on the musicschool where I had guitar lessons. If you are interesten you can check out these two tracks. I wrote the material before I ever seriously listened to prog. It must have been in my veins! Links to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlW-7GrRtQc INCONSISTENCY BY Friso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irU5OtrUbNE THE REASON TOMATOES ARE BLUE by Friso |

Are you a professional musician, semi-pro, wanna-be pro, or an at-home-messing-'round-in-my-spare-time player?
The internet has sort of blurred some lines, but I'd call myself an experienced amateur. I don't make my living from music...yet. :) Have you recorded your own compositions ? Got samples online ? Sure! Just released an album last July. "Starkaudio" - Feel free to grab it from http://lukestark.com What instrument(s) do you play? It's all in the machine these days, but I claim to play guitar, bass and keys. What instrument(s) do you wish you could play? Well, I wish my singing was better. Do you play Prog or another type? I'm trying to figure that out. It's a mix of a lot of things, but "classic prog" it isn't. It's prog-infuenced *something*. Anyway, comments on y'alls music: I read as far back as mid 2008 and found these people with work online... @Friso - Nice guitar work there, and I agree the drummer is sick-good. Did you guys ever record anything in the studio? I'd love to hear it. @Bj-1 - Love the jam, I was never very good at improv, which makes your track all the more appealing. I really enjoy the bit around 5:02...reminds me of King Crimson. (I hope that doesn't offend.) @Philamelian - More Jazzy prog. Nice keyboard work as well. @Amaury - Reminds me of surf music a bit. Very good. @Moderan - Arson (alt take) has a great slinky feel. Get's a bit weird, but I like it. @ Dr. No 7134 - I think a lot of power is lost in the recording, but I'd love to hear it fully. Did you guys ever rerecord anything? @AlbertMond - Hehheh...yeah well. *you* said defile, not me. But at least you had the cajones to record and publish. Not sure about the racist bits, but maybe those were meant to shock people. @JPlanet - Shadow Circus is definately prog. That was 2007? Did "Whispers and Screams" get release? @Negoba - Beautifully recorded. Nice vocal work. |

hey Lukestark, thanks! This was when I was seventies years old. We were just a musicschoolband and we only played five songs I wrote. But don't worry. I'm busy with a pop/rock/hiphop project now (don't get scared, it's going to be OK), but I will make prog in the future as soon as I find the right people to make it with!

I've been playing for about 7 years now however most of it has been at home. I've been in a few bands, and also tried to start a few but didn't really get very far with any of them. I guess I would consider myself a wanna-be pro.
Have you recorded your own compositions ? Got samples online?
I'm working on writing some original stuff right now, however it's not really going that well. I really need to work on learning scales and such first as I've always overlooked that.
What instrument(s) do you play?
I play guitar primarily. I've played piano in the past.
What instrument(s) do you wish you could play?
Drums and bass. Mostly drums, they are amazing.
Do you play Prog or another type?
I play alot of Rush songs, attempt a few by Joe Satriani and I'm currently working on some Dream Theater tunes. So I would say mostly Prog.

Cool thread, I'll have to browse through it when I have more time.
I started playing jazz piano a little less than a year ago, though I've had on and off past experience. Definitely a wanna-be pro, I've only been able to play with others a few chance times and its always given me a high nothing else can bring me. I'm working hard and taking any opportunity I can get now. So far I know a few jazz standard tunes here and there, my proudest achievements so far are my own arrangement of Zappa's 'Blessed Relief' and I also taught myself the intro to Maneige's Mambo Chant by ear, that was a tough one . Currently working on writing some of my own stuff, and Chick Corea's Spain. My goal right now is to get some jazz-fusion related project going, once I get the skill level up a bit more. Only issue is nobody seems to be into fusion anymore! I've got me some networking to do I guess. |

I'm an at-home-messin'-around-in-my-spare-time guitarist and keyboard player. I've been playing keyboard since I was a kid, but I've only taken up the guitar in the last 3 years or so. Teaching myself, so I can put off them dreaded barre chords.

I recorded a cd titled Lighthouse Summer in 2004. The production is low-fi. It sold more in Hungary than other places. I believe it still might be on CD Baby I don't know. But it can be sampled there. ZNR Records carried it and Greg Walker on Synphonic music website has maybe 2 copies. Nick Tate reviewed it in Progression Magazine back in 2004. I guess it might have a Camel/Anthony Phillips style. I am not a singer/songwriter or a great composer. I am an idea person. If I worked with a prog unit I could contribute ideas mainly.
I released another cd titled The Arrival Of Nightmares which shows a completely diverse style in my music and my playing. Most of the cd came together in my head during a 10 year span of composing horror film scores for low budget B films for film students in college. |

1. Between wanna-be-pro and at home messing around
2. I hope to have a couple songs online by Christmastime
3. I play guitar, bass when necessary
4. I REALLY want to be able to play piano/keys well. I like to screw around with the piano, but in reality, I have no idea what I'm doing
5. Yes, I play Prog. Specifically, it could best be described as Heavy Prog according to this site.

I'm playing keyboards in an all instrumental blues band that's just going to play some live shows, maybe record one album but in a little while I'll be starting a band that's definitely progressive but wouldn't really be classified as progressive rock. Pur a prog keyboardist, blues guitarist and punk drummer/singer together and see what happens.
