They (Quartz) recorded a fine version of Mountain's Nantucket Sleighride for Reddington's Rare Records.

I remember scanning Reddington's Rare Records adverts in the back of Sounds every week.Ah. The memories...

Has anyone mentioned Motorhead's protoges,Girlschool yet? Definately NWOBHM.I saw them support Motorhead at Hammy Odeon @ 1980.

I also saw them support Tygers of Pan Tang. A couple members of the band were regular drinkers at The Lonsdale in Portobello Road.
The Lonsdale is a Samuel Smiths pub and in the late 70s/early 80s, you could open the doors to the pub and bump into assorted Pink Fairies,members of Hawkwind,Inner City Unit,Edgar Broughton Band and Julian Lennon! Yep.That's right Julian Lennon.He formed and short lived band with Lemmy's 'Son'.Paul someone or other?
A great boozer.It smelled of pachouli,Samuel Smith's Museum Ale,cider,Newcastle Brown Ale,and motorbike sump oil.A heady mixture indeed.
Most of my Saturdays from 1979-1981 were spent in and around Portobello Road.This was mainly because of the Notting Hill Record and Tape Exchange. I would buy about half a dozen albums.Go down Portobello Road buy a few 'grandad shirts',waistcoats etc. pop into The Lonsdale for a pint or six.Nip upto the HMV in Notting Hill Gate.This branch was a very small one and it was run by a metallist who would ,once you were in with him' give you promo albums for nothing.I remember him giving me a copy of Cozy Powell's 'Over The Top' album.

I would then head off home to S.E. London,Have something to eat and either go upto THe Marquee or to a pub in Greenwich called The Swan to see either Dumpy's Rusty Nuts or Purple Haze.And all for £1 and eleventy-twelve pence.

It makes it progressive related or crossover prog or prog metal or in PA's case none of the above.

yeah Girlschool toured S.F. a few times, plus the whole Motorhead/St. Valentine's Day Massacre thing, kind of a novelty to see an all-girl metal band (I use the term 'metal' lightly)
